Nokia C3 - wlan problem

the problem is with vodafone is that this is only a payt device and not a contract device, and is not a bib problem, but to be fair the people that we should be blaming are Nokia, who are less interseted than Vodafone, again because this is not a big selling handset

I have to disagree with you on this, i believe that this is nothing to do with nokia, vodafone brand the handsets with their own software and this is what is causing the problem!

Nokia C3 - wlan problem

Vodafone Team,
Unlocking my phone has not resolved the issue for me. Maybe you should publish the exact phone settings with a step by step guide on this thread, as the settings could be wrong and alot of your customers maybe able to follow your guide and resolve the problem with their phone - Vodafone should be proactive rather than just saying that you are waiting for a solution!!

I do appreciate that Vodafone has other customer issues to deal with, but looking at the amount of posts on this thread, this issue is just going to get bigger and bigger.

Hi, sorry to hear that unlocking has not resolved the issue for you and therefore I am wondering if after unlock you are still using your voda sim card? I have done this for my friends and it has worked like a charm. Remember that the unlocking of your C3 will not fix the bug with the voda software installed in your C3 which is trigered only when you insert your voda sim in it. Unlocking your phone gives you the option of using other sims that will not triger the bug. UNLOCK YOR PHONE, DO A COMPLETE FACTORY RESET OF ALL THE SETTINGS, TURN OFF AND THEN ON YOUR PHONE, TURN YOUR WIFI ON AND THEN USE YOUR OTHER SIM. Good lock

Hi Sarah,

Could you advise what your phone settings are for web?

Today I've had my phone exchanged (the one that I had unlocked yesterday!) for a new one and had the new phone unlocked whilst in the Vodafone store. I have not changed any settings as yet as I want to make sure that the correct settings are entered.

Hi yuki-malous,

I want to stick with vodafone, purely for the webpack as that is all I will be using this phone for - unless of anyone is aware of a better network to use that will give me payg web access for a cheaper or similar price to vodafone and avoid the current wifi issues?

Thanks

Yes it had been a long time since I started this thread. I just looked to see if had been resolved.... No surprises that it hasn't. I am so glad I returned the phone and got my money back. When the issues are resolved maybe I'll give it another try. I really can't believe the problem still hasn't been properly acknowledged or an explanation given regarding how this has occured. That is the least I think Vodafone should do for it's customers

Hi, I got the unlock code from the Vodafone web site and made the necessary changes and factory reset. Although the WiFi worked when no SIM was installed the phone would still connect to the packet network with the SIM in. The solution was to delete the connection I configured for the packet netowrk and this solved the problem, the phone now connects to WiFi, at last!!

Hi John,

Could you explain which settings you deleted/created please. I'm on my second unlocked C3 and it still connects via the sim rather than my wifi connection.
Thanks

Hi,

I used this entry from Mark387:

Nokia C3
How to configure your device for Internet
1. Press “Menu”
2. Scroll to Settings, press “Select”
3. Scroll to Configuration, press “Select”
4. Scroll to Personal settings, press “Select”
5. Press “Add” or if other accounts are listed, press “Options”, scroll to Add new, press “Select”
6. Scroll to Web, press “Select”
7. Scroll to Account name, press “Select”
8. Press “Clear” to delete text already present
9. Enter Vodafone Internet, press “OK”
10. Scroll to Homepage, press “Select”
11. Enter http://live.vodafone.com, press “OK”
12. Scroll to User name, press “Select”
13. Enter web, press “OK”
14. Scroll to Password, press “Select”
15. Enter web, press “OK”
16. Re-enter web, press “OK”
17. Scroll to Use preferred access pt., press “Select”
18. Scroll to No, press “Select”
19. Scroll to Access point settings, press “Select”
20. Scroll to Proxy, press “Select”
21. Scroll to Disable, press “Select”
22. Scroll to Bearer settings, press “Select”
23. Scroll to Packet data acc. pt., press “Select”
24. Press “Clear” to delete text already present
25. Enter:
For Pay monthly customers: internet
For Pay as you go customers: pp.vodafone.co.uk
26. Press “OK”
27. Scroll to Authentication type, press “Select”
28. Scroll to Normal, press “Select”
29. Scroll to User name, press “Select”
30. Enter web, press “OK”
31. Scroll to Password, press “Select”
32. Enter web, press “OK”
33. Re-enter web, press “OK”
34. Press “Back” three times
35. Scroll to Vodafone Internet, press “Options”
36. Scroll to Activate, press “Select”
37. Press “Back”
38. Scroll to Default config. sett., press “Select”
39. Scroll to Personal config., press “Options”
40. Scroll to Set as default, press “Select”.

I did this with no SIM installed and it appear to work, but when I put the SIM into the phone it still connected automatically to the packet network. So I deleted the Vodafone Internet account created above and that stopped the phone connecting and the browser automatically connects to WiFi.

Hope this helps,

John

Hi,
I have tried this before (earlier post), however this was before I had my first phone unlocked. Currently I have to manually connect to wifi and after a few minutes the phone automatically disconnects and uses the packet data. I will try the above again and see where I get.

I'll let you know how I get on.
Thanks

But why should you have to use the phone without the sim card in ? The phone/software is faulty. If this was a car or any other piece of equipment nobody would put up with it.

Hi,

My phone now seems to be working as it should, although I'll still keep checking to make sure that it's connected to my wi-fi!!
thanks for the instructions John.

I agree with mnstocks that support has been poor for this problem. I've never had to spend so much time getting a new phone to do what it should.....

Now the phone works on wi-fi, but tried using it whilst out and it would not connect to the packet data until I reset i the default config settings back to payg. Must still have the wrong settings but have followed instructions listed above.

From reading the posts I think it's 50/50 on if it will work. It's quite clear with some handsets wifi will only work if the aim card is removed.

Hi, my requirement for this was to have the phone connect with WiFi only and never to use the potentially costly data connection, therefore I deleted the configuration for the packet network. That is why you can't connect when away from WiFi. Sorry I should have made that obvious in my post.

Let us hope Vodafone produce a fix, although I have become very disillusioned with their attitude to support as they just appear to pay 'lip service' to any requests.

Hi,
My phone is still not working as it should. Any chance of Vodafone testing the settings that should be in place to enable automatic wifi when at home etc and internet connection via the payg sim package when out and about with the "ask first" question working and then listing a step by step guide for customers to set up their phones correctly. Have wasted a lot of time trying to get my phone to work as I want it but it still doesn't................not impressed.

Nokia C3 - wlan problem

Hello I also have a Nokia C3 and I think I might be having the same problem. I am trying to connect via router, but when I select to use internet it won't let me use it? It tries to use the Mobile internet instead.. is this the same problem? If not, if you tell me what to do I can try to see if its the same on my phone?
