Nokia C7 - shortcut set up and automatic connection to profile

I have been exploring my new Nokia C7 and I have a few set up enquiries which other users may be able to help me with.

1. E Mail. On my E72, I used a long press on Messages and I was able to read all my email messages. I cannot find a way to do this on the C7 which means going the long way round.

2. Automatic changing to 'In Car' profile when a Bluetooth headset is turned on. How can this be done ?

3. I would like a shortcut to turn on Bluetooth which in turn would automatically select the 'in car' profile.

Apart from the above, its a very nice phone and I am very pleased with the phones performance.

Many thanks for any help and tips.

Nokia C7 - shortcut set up and automatic connection to profile

Hi there,

I have managed to sort out the bluetooth problem.

There are a few more niggles,

Text messaging, where do I find the word selections for the predictive, e.g, If typing 'IF', it comes out as 'HE'.

No quick access to emails and there is no notification of when there is an email.

The phone autolocks, I have phone autolock on NONE and remote phone locking is disabled. This is annoying when I am in the car and the phone is locked and I wish to use bluetooth. How do I overcome this, so the phone locks when I want to lock it ?

With T9 you should see the guessed word being underlined. Click that word and you can choose other likely options. I don't know how to re-order the guesses to default to the one you are most likely to use.

As I understand it Autolock Period of None is the default setting. You can take the C7 up to about 30 minutes (I think) but it is a global setting and not really what you want.

It would be nice if Nokia allowed you to configure another unlock key (e.g. "End Call" or a swipe pattern) for when the phone is in a cradle but I guess they decided to play safe.

Thank you dcarmi62

The default setting for the phone autolock is none or user defined where you can delay locking.

There must be a workaround so the user can be in control over whether the phone is locked. If there isnt, I would consider this a bug.

I would hope there could be a workaround this problem, from the drivers point of view you do not want the phone locked in a cradle.

I am aware of some commercial software which can configure the autolock so it is in the Symbian API. Melon Mobile have Advance Device Locks (and pro version), which appears to do this but it costs. There is a 7 day trial version you can download. It supports S^3 and the C7 specifically.

There may well be other apps out there but I have not looked.

Forgot to say that the PDF manual for Advance Locks is available on the Melon website. I have not tried the software and do not make an recommendation as to its efficacy. I am just aware of its existence, that is all.

Hi AnnS,

Thanks for your post about your new C7. Pleased to see you're getting along with the handset just fine too!

Unfortunately I don't have access to one of these at the moment and I currently have no way of knowing when we'll be getting one of these in the device cupboard.

Let me see if I can find anything out for you so that I can at least attempt to physically try out a few things.

Cheers,

Hello Ann

Have you tried to experiment with the Melon Mobile application, I too have not had a chance to test anything, but I do know that third party software alternatives may be the way to go here.

Please keep us posted, I noticed you haven't been back on the thread for a few days now, :)

Thanks

Hello Reidar,

I had a look at the Melon Mobile applications and decided they were not really suitable.

I have set the auto keypad lock to 30 minutes and providing you just wake the phone up before the 30 minutes are up, it will stay unlocked for my car use. The only drawback is the light stays on and drains the battery, but I have a car charger.

Ideally, Nokia should have included an auto keypad on or off feature like they do on most other handsets where the phone would go into sleep mode.

I cannot see a way to read emails other than going into applications, mail and clicking on my email address and although mail is synchronised, I dont seem to be getting notified on new mail.

Otherwise, very impressed with the handset. Texting took some getting used to, I kept accidentally going out of predictive, the touch screen is very responsive and you only need to hover over the wrong key !

Hi AnnS

I have to admit it always takes me time to get used to a new phone as I get stuck in a pattern on how to do texts etc.

We still havent got the C7 in so have been unable to have a play with the phone.

It is fantastic that you are loving the phone, and I am sure that you will get the little issues sorted out :D

Thank you Martin,

I have found I can have a shortcut to mail on the home screen, but the only problem with that is, the last two received emails are also visible, so that is not a good idea. If anyone picks up the phone, and unlocks the keypad, they can go straight into the mail box.

Apart from the phone not having a keypad lock you can or not have with the phone going into sleep mode and the mail shortcut, I love the phone and really enjoy using it.
