Nokia N8-Freezing/crashing

I've had the N8 for a few days, for whatever reason it's freezing and nothing I seem to do (hard reset/pressing other buttons) seems to get it back to life.

I've lost a complete day without being able to use it due to being in Alton Towers when I really needed a phone/camera.

It seems to happen randomly doing different things. Mainly though when turning the phone whilst using the text messaging qwerty keyboard.

I'm far from happy at the moment. Have I got a faulty phone in some way?

if the phone freezes you can restart it by holding the power button for 10 seconds.

i have not seen the faults you describe. but there was an update for the phone this morning that has some stability fixes.

Ahh, an update already. Nice!

Have done the restart, but nothing was happening. Had to leave the phone for several hours then have another go - and then it worked briefly before freezing up again - not ideal considering I was out & about for the day!

i would have to say that that amount of crashing is not typical.

Didn't think it was. Normally I'd be on the forums like this, but yesterday was away so couldn't. Reading via Google last night it seems there are several problems.

Just trying to get the new update - nothing available for me... so far..

The update probably isn't available for vodafone handsets yet. We've got to wait for them to work out how to break it before they send it out.

Just waiting now for Voda to get back to me whether it's a phone/software problem

you could try a full reset
Try a full reset
type *#7370# into the dialer, this will Reformat your phone but should not remove maps and the QT enviroment

also if you have a memory card, pull it and see if the phones behavior improves,
finally have you installed any apps to the phone, particularly S60 ones

As stated your phones behavior is not typical of the n8, even one damaged by voda

Note I do not work for voda, My advice comes from experience and my opinions are my own

I would try that, cept the phone is switched off at the moment & I can't get it back on - not even with any button combination/reset thing.

Voda have been notified and I'm awaiting the procedure to get it replaced

Try giving the bottom a heafty tap
the battery may have a dodgy connection

lol..

Just wish it was as simple as taking the battery out and blowing on the battery contacts, then replacing the battery inside lol

If you have a scredriver hanging around ;)

As if...lol

When I was googling the possible problem, someone has actually come up with the instructions to do that -

Never in a million years would I attempt such a nuts thing....

Unless I was paid to do it obviously :)

That could be a promising sign. If with symbian^3 nokia can update bits of software without going through the whole software update process it will mean those of us with branded handsets won't have to wait for stuff like browser updates.

My N8 was doing exactly the same thing, freezing then crashing and then making you wait before you are able to turn it on again. The 10 second reset did nothing. To cap it off, now it won't start at all no matter how long you leave it before trying again. From the sound of the posts here and on the Nokia website this problem is becoming fairly common.

Also not impressed with Vodafone 'customer service' which told me the phone number I need to call (because I upgraded online - saving them money/time/staff) isn't apparently open now until monday. Why can't I just walk into a shop and get a replacement...

Am waiting on the procedure to get a replacement sent. Supposedly someone from Vodafone was supposed to have a look at my query here - but alas, nothing
