You'll have to ring Voda and they'll arrange it to be replaced (possibly). At the moment I'm still waiting for my replacment to turn up (Friday). They have no stock at the moment

Nokia N8-Freezing/crashing

I have had very similar problems. I found that pressing the power button at the top and sliding the lock button down seemed to switch it when nothing else would.

Nokia N8-Freezing/crashing

Hi Guys

Sorry to see that you are having difficulties with the phone freezing.

To arrange for an exchange handset if you still within the 7 day returns period, this needs to be done from the same channel as where you go the phone from.

If you got this from a Vodafone Store, please return there.
If ordered over the phone please dial 191
If ordered online please call 0844 8540 430 or email info@v-store.co.uk

I would also like to ask some questions on when the phone freezes:

Are there any patterns on what is used or done before it freezes?
Is the phone connected to 2G, 3G or Wifi when this happens?
Did the phone do this before you download any apps?
Have you tried a factory reset, and does the phone still freeze?
Is there more than one app running?

We have been in contact with the devices team, that want to try and reproduce this on the N8 and if there are any patterns that are causing this. Once replicated we can then look at a fix for it.

If you can give us as much information on what is happening before the phone is exchanged that would be appreciated.

Thanks

Martin

Well, as soon as I get the new N8 (tomorrow) Friday, I'll be able to answer some of those questions. My main gripe has been the slowness of response from Vodafone & being told to email when the ball could've started rolling when I called last Friday

Re: Nokia N8-Freezing/crashing

This is a commom fault with this phone, thousands of people all over the world are having the same problem. Mine has been sent away for repair (it is 8 weeks old!) After finding hundreds of complaints about this phone on other forums, I dont hold much hope in it lasting long when it comes back. Worst nokia EVER, also there is a clip on youtube from Nokia admitting to the problem, apparently they will not be releasing anymore N8's until this issue has been sorted! So my question is......... Why are Vodafone still releasing this phone?!!!!

(Google Nokia N8 dead or Nokia N8 Faulty, you will be amazed what you will find! )

Re: Nokia N8-Freezing/crashing

I got my N8 in November and it crashed after about 10 days. I contacted Vodafone and got appalling customer service, at one stage I was told my phone was out of warantee! I finally returned it and it was "repaired". On its return it failed to work the first day i got it back, same problem lock and crash and wont re-start. I contacted Vodafone again and arranged for the phone to be returned. This time I didn't get a returns envelope until 31 December. So I have returned it again and am awaiting its "repair". Lets hope they do a better job this time. I have had the phone 2 months and have had no more than a few days usage. I have had Nokia phones for years and been a Vodafone customer for a long time but it seems loyalty accounts for nothing.

Re: Nokia N8-Freezing/crashing

Basicly Nokia made a mistake in there QA which allowed many phones in the first batches to be released with this issue

but they admitted the issue and are at least repairing all suffering phones under warenty

however voda and some other networks are being pig headded about acting on or passing on this addvice

Re: Nokia N8-Freezing/crashing

I've had my phone since September & up until recently it's been working great.  This was until on Christmas day while updating my facebook status using the contract WAP the phone froze mid typing & turned itself off.  A minute or so later it turned back on with no apparent ill effects.  The phone was working great again until last night when sending an e-mail (this time using a wi-fi connection) it froze mid typing again and turned itself off.  Now it won't turn back on, take a charge & all of the resets & hard resets I've found online do nothing!  I've sent an e-mail to vodafone asking for urgent assistance as I'm in the process of applying for a new job & I need this phone to speak to agencies / employers but from what I see on here as regards to turn around times I may have to purchase a cheap pay as you go phone & stick my sim card in it so I don't miss important calls.

Re: Nokia N8-Freezing/crashing

Guys, many thanks for sharing your experiences. My N8 kept on freezing and I've managed to isolate the problem - skype. I've then uninstalled version 1.5.4.15 before installing version 1.5.4.16. After doing that, I've yet to experience any further freezing of the phone. Sometimes you need to be a little bit patient with the phone. It's like using 486 all over again sometimes.

The symptoms of the issue beigng described, related to the manufacturing issue are

1) Phone will freeze for upto 1 min

2) Phone will power off

3) Phone will not restart, may vibrate if power button is pressed or long pressed,

4) Phone may recover if left alone for an hour or so, but eventualy symptoms will repat, occurances becoming more frequent,

only fix is to send back to nokia

Re: Nokia N8-Freezing/crashing

Eurgh mines in the same boat, it did it in November but has been fine since, but has just done it again, I check my pocket to see it's completely dead :smileymad: and won't switch on, hopefully it will suddenly let me switch it back on in a while again.

It had better bloody switch back on so I can back it up to PC and wipe it, as I don't feel at all comfortable sending it to Voda/Nokia with all my personal contacts and info on there. :robotindifferent:

Re: Nokia N8-Freezing/crashing

To help it leave it somewhere cool (not in the fridge or freezer)

It has been shown that cooling the device down speeds up the recovery time, however the damp atmosphere inside a domestic fridge or the condensation that will form inside and outside the phone when it's pulled from a freezer risks colouring the moisture detectors, voiding the warenty

Once you have it cleared take it to a nokia care point, describe the symptoms and insist on having it sent to nokia for repair, don't accept a firmware reflash

Mine took just under 2 weeks to come back and appears to be fixed

Re: Nokia N8-Freezing/crashing

Had it on my desk all day, kept trying every 15 mins or so, gave it a slight 'flex' in both directions whilst pressing power button, worked for me.

Backing up and then deleting personal photos/vids etc off the device, will use the phone for the weekend then service center it Monday.
