Still having charging issues with Nokia Lumia 800

[ Edited ]

A few days my Nokia Lumia battery drained right down, and since that has happened I have not been able to charge it through the mains, only through my laptop. I need my phone to be charged as I have family and friends and the hospital who need to contact me as I am 38 weeks pregnant.

I have tried different chargers, have purchased a mains charger instead of the USB charger and nothing, but when I connect my phone to my laptop it charges.

Have also tried the following too and none of them worked

Soft reset

Hard Reset

restored the phone to an earlier date

Like I said before I need my phone at the moment as its my lifeline in my present condition.

Hope somebody can help me out. Look forward to your replies

Hello, Do you have access to a USB Charger? If someone you know has for example a iPhone Charger plug, plug your supplied Nokia USB Cable into it and see if the handset charges. It is possible there is a fault with the charger which resulted in your handset not charging correctly and has now burnt out.

Yes the phone came with a USB charger and I have other USB chargers which I have tried with the handset and none of them work, I even bought a mains charger and not even that works :smileysad:

Re: Still having charging issues with Nokia Lumia 800

Hello,

I suspect there is a issue with the charging circuit on the handset.

On your list of applications there is a Nokia Diagnostics App (If not install from Marketplace).

Plug in your charger and look at the power status in the application, it will tell you if there is any current being applied to the handset, such as 600mA

Then plug your phone into the Laptop and check the same thing, and report back :smileyhappy:

If you can also test with another USB cable if possible that would be great.

Re: Still having charging issues with Nokia Lumia 800

Hi there Chiara14,

Thanks for your posts.

It looks like you've been given some great advice already from JesseMoore82.

Could you give the suggestions a go for me and if the problem doesn't abate then you might be better advised to check our a Vodafone Repair.

Cheers,

Lee

Re: Still having charging issues with Nokia Lumia 800

I've had issues with charging since the day I recieved my Lumia 800.

If you let it run down until it switches off forget getting it on by simply plugging in the charger, it will sit there showing the battery charge logo forever without actually charging. Mine was plugged in overnight and was still dead the next day.

It seems to get round this you have to plug and unplug the phone charger repeatedly while holding the power button in several times.  Eventually it powers up and you have to plug the charger in rapidly to make sure it charges and doesn't just switch off again.

Basically keep it charged or you're in for a bad time trying to get it to switch on again, but seeing as it occasionally discharges it's battery rapidy whilst in major built up areas this is nigh on impossible.  It seems when you go into the city with 3G on it scans and switches signal repeatedly, so often in fact the phone gets almost hot in your pocket as it munches the battery to death.

Vodafone will kindly offer to repair it for you, although it is somewhat disconcerting when their shop staff are telling you they have never heard of this issue before.  It doesn't inspire confidence when shop staff deny an issue that a simple web search will provide thousands of results for and thousands of unhappy lumia owners remarks on the issue.

However it seems if you want to be able to make calls while your phone is away for repair you better have your own spare phone or vodafone insurance because if no they will tell you that you cannot get a spare phone! Seriously who in this day and age does that?

Take our insurance or if your phone is faulty and UNDER WARRANTY we will leave you phoneless, so in essence go without a phone which for me and many others in not an option or just suffer the issues you have with your current phone.

I have two vodafone accounts and I am now seriously contemplating taking my business elsewhere.

No courtesy phone if phone needs warranty work

Well the title pretty much explains it all, if your phone is faulty then Vodafone will happily take it back for repair and leave you high and dry yet still paying their monthly contract while it is away. The best bit is this was never mentioned to me once when I accepted the contract, funny that?

This is laughable and disgusting customer service! The only way to get a courtesy phone is to have a Vodafone Insurance Policy covering your phone! Way to go Vodafone, lets force sell our customers our insurance and if they decline they will be stuck without a phone paying monthly payments while we mess about fixing something that is under warranty and really shouldn't need fixing after 5 months of ownership.

I shall be avoiding you in the future and be taking both my Vodafone accounts elsewhere, so far I have had phone problems, pretty pathetic web connection, paying for BT WiFi that doesn't work or accept my details and to top it all you want to force your insurance on me, I think not!

I intend to take my custom to another service provider at the earliest opportunity because I'm paying top dollar forembarassingly  poor service right now.

Re: No courtesy phone if phone needs warranty work

Hi jcdammer,

Can you confirm for me that you'd tried the suggestions posted above to check the charger you're using is supported and not faulty? While we'll be happy to support the warranty in house for you, we're only able to offer loan phones in recognition of those customers paying premiums each month for their insurance service. We offer more than some network operators who simply charge all of their customers a premium to borrow a phone in the meantime.

If you're unhappy with our in house repair process, you're still able to approach the manufacturer directly. You can find your nearest Nokia repair centre here.

Cheers, Ben

Re: No courtesy phone if phone needs warranty work

I contacted Vodafone last week due to the charging issue and I have this time opted out of the Insurance as my bank account now offers a replacement service.

Although they collected the phone and provided me with a replacement had set the next day. Although I now have a business contract so that may have been the reason.
