Apple has confirmed that its new AirPods will work on non Apple devices.

Initial reports surrounding the company’s newly launched wireless earphones said that the Apple AirPods will only work with the iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus.

However, a test by the folks over at The Verge found that a several non-Apple devices could be connected to the AirPods.

This contradicts information in the official AirPods press release which said they would only work with the Apple devices running iOS 10, watchOS 3 or macOS Sierra.

The downside is that users will of course lose some of the features that are only available with Apple devices, such as double tapping on an AirPod to launch Siri, or the proximity pairing feature.

Apple later told The Verge that while the AirPods can be paired on non Apple devices via Bluetooth, doing so won’t allow them to be used to their full capabilities, saying they “just lose the magic when not used with an Apple device.”

Yesterday Apple confirmed the release date and price in Thailand for its new AirPods.

“AirPods are the first headphones to deliver a breakthrough wireless audio experience, and they deliver innovative features including high quality sound, great battery life and automatic setup,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing.

“AirPods are simple and magical to use, with no switches or buttons, automatically connecting to all your Apple devices simply and seamlessly.
