Solution

R215 DHCP problems

I have a new R215 4G router to which I connect various devices including IBook, windows laptop and desktop, network printer, iphones and ipads.

Therouter seems to throw devices off the network for no reason from time to time and will iften not allow the device to reconnect. Solution often requires rebooting of router or forgetting the network on the device and re-authenticating.

All devices were originally set to dhcp address config.

Manual ip address setting only partially resolves the issue.

Any suggestions?

Hello

welcome to tbe eForum.

Is it possible the Router is faulty ? How new is it.

Their are different security protocols but personally I stick with WEP. WPA2

Also some devices struggle to cope to stay on different frequencies under one SSID

For example my BT Home Hub 5 offers two which are 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. I can split the two under different SSID so the device is not swapping from one to the other.

Does your Router perhaps have this option ?

Thanks Bandofbrothers.

Am using WPA but not a security issue as devices are conneting to router but not being given an IP address.

Band set to 2.4ghz only

Maybe that router is faulty

My apologies regarding my first reply.

I use WPA2 not WEP.

Yes it could be a faulty router.

Can people visiting you connect ok or do they have similar issues.

Dont know re. visitors as they rarely connect for long enough to be thrown off. The macbook is thrown off far more frequently than the other devices

@Daveattch

Do you know if you have the latest software on the device? We can send this to you if needed.

Another option you can look into, if the device is faulty, is to arrange a repair.
