Android Market finally gets a Web site

There was a big Android event today mainly centering around demonstrating honeycomb for tablets.

I have to say it looks absolutely fantastic and makes the current ipad offering look fisher price.

Its now easy to see why Google pleaded with the likes of Samsung not to release a Tablet until honeycomb was ready.

Anyway the thing which was announced today which affects us mobile users of Android is the new Android market website!

and its already live! Now you can browse the entire market and make purchases from your desktop browser directly to your phone.

It can be found at:

http://market.android.com/

From what I have seen it works seamlessly with your phone.

The best coverage I've found of the entire event for those who are interested, is here:

The Android platform seems to go from strength to strength on a weekly basis.

Re: Android Market finally gets a Web site

When I sign in, the Android market recongnises my phone as:

'Vodafone Samsung Galaxy S I9000'

It works perfectly for me. :smileyhappy:

I'm just curious how the market knows I'm on vodafone.

Although this is a good thing if they're going to introduce 'in carrier billing' for the market.

Re: Android Market finally gets a Web site

For me the site thinks my phone was first registered in November last year (I got the phone much earlier than that) and so filters the list of installed applications in My Account to those installed after that date.

The general site knows about ALL my installed apps though - hence the thought that the list in My Account is filtered.

I suspect the date is down to when I blew the phone to the google build from the Vodafone one - i.e. the date of the last reset.

Scratch that - it's got nothing to do with the registered date.

how did you get on with your market problem the other day?

You started this thread but you never let the forum know how you got on.

Did you manage to sort this out and download your paid apps??

and you're now saying you are having difficulties with the market again. Could this be linked to the fact that you have tried to set up the market on the phone with the wrong google account initally??

(I don't know, I'm just suggesting why you maybe having an issue with this today. Others maybe having an issue for another reason. But its defintiely working for me)

You must be using the Vodafone firmware.

Interestingly my old HTC magic is rooted but running the Vodafone firmware and it only shows up as 'Device' on the market site.

Find this post useful? Give it the thumbs up below!

Nope Vanilla firmware, Vanilla product code, Vanilla csc.

The only thing I have which is Vodafone is my sim card.

I find it interesting as not everyone is getting this from the market and as said before, Google plans to introduce 'in carrier billing' shortly as a payment option.

So I wonder what is going on that the market is recognising some accounts as being with a particular carrier whilst others are not..
