Re: GPS Fails after WP7 Mango Update

I too have the GPS problem and have previously posted on this.

I echo entirely what Martin has said. Vodafone should be ashamed of themselves for taking this stance. This is a documented problem, reproduced and specific to Vodafone's products. I am disgusted at the response received here.

The only recourse left to me is to never buy another Vodafone item again. After my experiences so far, I am very comfortable with that.

Disgraceful.

Re: GPS Fails after WP7 Mango Update

Note to Navigon users: with the new version 4.1 it copes more intelligently with gps dropouts and in the gps info section there is the addition of HDOP information (Horizontal Degree of Precision) so you can see how good your locks are.

Its a big improvement in performance for us GPS-crippled Optimus 7 owners using my workaround (who are still waiting for a proper firmware fix, please Vodafone).

Re: GPS Fails after WP7 Mango Update

I too have suffered this issue with my LG Optimus 7 - I have used the work arounds partially successfully, but today reset my phone and despite recording the settings that worked in MFG, the GPS is no longer working!

There must be many users like me that have read, and used, this forum post without registering ourselves as affected users...come on Vodafone...I have 5 months left on my contract and the hundreds of pounds I pay for my account depends on you showing good service.

Re: GPS Fails after WP7 Mango Update

[ Edited ]

I have received the latest update - 7.10.8107. Has anyone else got it yet?

I noticed that the update reset the SUPL server to Vodafone so I figured there must have been some changes on the GPS front, although it left all my other GPS-related settings as I'd set them in MFG.

With a deep breath, I reset all the settings to defaults and then reset the aiding data data (changed it from Hot Start to reset, saved, then changed it back).

I restarted my handset and tested the GPS. It seems to work! Got decent locks within about 35 seconds (10m horizontal accuracy outside). Not bad from a clear slate.

I will test it further on the drive home from work tonight but it seems that we may have got the fix at last.

Can anyone else report in once they've tried this post-update?

I wonder why Vodafone have not informed us of this...

Re: GPS Fails after WP7 Mango Update

I haven't tried to reset back to any default settings, partly on the basis of "if it aint broke..." but partly because it was difficult to get it to reliably fail - it worked for several days, then stopped - tweak some settings - it worked for several more days, and stopped.

I'm going to leave it working. truth will tell if and when I have to do a hard reset. All is still working fine after the update.

Unfortunately getting good information is difficult. microsoft are either being very cagey about the specific changes (no need to draw illicit atttention to vulnerabilities even after they're patched, since not everyone updates), or the list really is as short as zune indicates, which would be a bad thing. gone are the days when people publish full bugfix lists and changelogs. the information age is over, and now it's about hiding stuff away, even the stuff they should be telling us about - and it's a shame to say this isn't about corporate secrecy, but as much about dumbing it down to the lowest common denominator.

And really, after the last few posts, I wasn't expecting much from vodafone before I upgraded away from this handset, but since I'm still waiting for them to sell something that is actually an upgrade..... (Another topic....)

Re: GPS Fails after WP7 Mango Update

Looks like two of you at least have got the 8107 update - I assume you're both Vodafone UK. I still haven't got mine yet.

Do you know if this is to be expected or if they are rolling it out by IMEI?

Thanks for any help.

Re: GPS Fails after WP7 Mango Update

OK - updated manually (as per xda) - all seems well.

I'm keen to go back to the original gps settings to see if it's fixed for me but lost the bit of paper I wrote them on (doh!). Did anyone keep a record of those original settings for a UK Vodafone Optimus 7? If so, could you share those 'user' and 'system' settings please.

Thanks in anticipation.

Re: GPS Fails after WP7 Mango Update

Many thanks - you're a star!

Can I just check that you haven't got the system 2g and 3g settings reversed? I though 3g loc estimate was the default and assistance data was default for 2g.

Regards

Re: GPS Fails after WP7 Mango Update

Even though it all works again with the original settings I still find it better with my tweak.

At least everyone can use the GPS functions again, though...
