N900 - Facebook Mobile Site

I go on Facebook a fair amount on my N900 and always use it as a standard web page, unless I've clicked on the link that I get in an alert text which takes me to the basic Facebook mobile page.

So howcome now, when I go on FB using the desktop app or by bookmark i'm now redirected to the m.facebook.com site!? I've not changed a thing and it's getting quite annoying! I've tried a reboot but that hasn't worked.

Has anyone else had this problem recently?

Yep, started getting that this morning. What's more, if you look to the bottom of the page there's a link that says "Go back to Vodafone Live". On a Nokia N900?
It's detecting that you're coming through a Vodafone server. <_<

Tap on the link that says "To access the main site "Click Here". Then replace your bookmark/desktop shortcut.

I can't try it myself because my account is "under maintenance/being trashed".

This problem seems to affect everyone so it'll be a change that facebook have made globally.

The best solution is to complain and get them to change it back but in the meantime there are a number of workarounds here:

......I've also been getting this this morning ! Don't think its anything to do wiith a Vodafone server cos when I tap on the Facebook app on my homescreen - its connecting via wifi and not through Vodafone internet but its still taking me to the m.facebook site.....?!

Even when I open up the MicroB browser on my N900 and type in www.facebook.com, it still redirects to m.facebook.com...??!!

It's definitely a facebook thing, for every N900 worldwide whether they are connecting via wifi or 3G.

As in the link I posted, using the URL http://facebook.com/home.php does work but it may redirect to the mobile site at some point later during your session. The best workarounds seem to involve altering the browser user agent. :)

N900 - Facebook Mobile Site

Hello everyone and thanks for posting.

i am not aware of any changes we've made via the Vodafone network (just to support your current theory).

Since the changes have mainly started occurring today i would wait a further 24 hours, in case this is a temporary change or glitch, after which we may need to raise this as a Facebook issue, although we would be limited as far as what we can change.

In the meantime please keep us updated on any changes and explore the provided workarounds.

Thanks

Thanks Reidar, will let you know what happens tomorrow.

Mine started this morning too and has been at it all day, unless I go through the new bookmark as Sticky Mick suggested.

Hopefully it's not a permanent change, the mobile site is awful!!

Can't even login now without being told that my account is under maintenance, then I get redirected to Facebook Mobile.

Same here, I'm stuck on the rubbish mobile version - it looks like Facebook now recognise the N900 as a mobile phone and are giving it the same treatment as all mobile phones as it's offering 'download a bookmark for your N900'.

It's a pain but if you go to the bottom right of the mobile site, click on the touch site and then once on the touch site at the bottom of that site you get the option to click on full site. It's 2 clicks but still it gets you there!

It's quicker to just delete the m. prefix on the URL and hit enter if going from the desktop widget, otherwise you can set custom bookmarks that will load the full site.

I did that to start but it kept throwing me back to the mobile site when I moved around on it!

I've put my own Facebook bookmark on my desktop now instead of using the app.

Same here. It will always throw you back to the mobile site at some point (even with a desktop bookmark).

I haven't had a reply to my complaint from Facebook support as yet, other than the standard issue "Clear your cookies and browser history" get out.
Might put my Angry Kid head on and stick it round the door again later today.

... if vodafone could raise this issue with Facebook that'd be fab ... they appear to be ignoring our individual requests to be recognised as a very capable smartphone instead of a cheapy mobile ...

Still had no reply to my previous messages from the Facebook team either. So I've fired another broadside across their bows, see if I get a response.

Hi All,

Many thanks for all of your posts, we do appreciate it when potentially raising a fault at a network level.

I will pass this over in my handover at 08:00 to the relevant department so they can raise this and get the ball rolling at looking at the root cause of the issue.

Many thanks

Andrew
