Vodafone 845 - PC Suite not recognising phone

Hi,

Don't know if anyone else has had trouble with the Vodafone 845 connecting to the packaged PC Suite???

The suite will not recognise my mobile via USB.  It worked for about a week but then stopped recognising the device.

Have tried reinstalling the suite, have tried installing without the sd card, have tried with or without the various USB options (usb debugging etc...), have tried everything.

I love this little phone and would like to keep using it, but if I can't get the PC suite to work I may have to look at a different model...

Please help? :smileyhappy:

Does it pick up as a device outside of the Suite? e.g. in My Computer

Re: Vodafone 845 - PC Suite not recognising phone

Hi,  Thanks for getting back so quickly :smileyhappy:

I can see the phone in explorer and I can transfer files but when I open the PC suite (weather from the phone pop-up when connected or via the desktop icon) it starts up but does not see the phone.

I have looked at a few forums and it looks like this is a common occurence on this phone.

Re: Vodafone 845 - PC Suite not recognising phone

try this:

In Windows,
Click start>RUN
Enter the following- devmgmt.msc
>click ok
Device manager opens
Right click on USB controllers
Select 'scan for hardware changes'

Make sure you do this with the phone connected and without the sd card inserted in the phone. It is the SD card that is causing the problems

No, the problem does not lie with your phone!
There is nothing wrong with the phone.

The problem lies with your computer.
The problem has come about because of the way your phone was connected to your computer with the sd card in and a conflict developed.
The problem is due to the pc suite being poorly written software as is the case with a lot of phone manufacturers.

You can prove all of the above by installing pc suite on another computer and I bet it will connect.

I'm assuming that at least one time today when you have been trying different solutions, you have re-started your PC.

So the only other thing I can suggest is to go back into device manager.
Delete all the USB ports, restart your computer, and then try to connect.

Make sure your phone is set to connect in PC suite mode in the phones usb settings.

Failing that, uninstall the PC suite, use some form of windows registry cleaner to clean up the registry and start again.

If you don't mind me asking why on earth are you trying to use the pc suite anyway? Is there some specific function you need?
You shouldn't need to use it for anything other than updates.
These pc suites from all manufacturers are notoriously unstable. I haven't used one for years.

With an Android phone you should sync all your contacts, calender etc. with your google account over the air.
If you want to transfer files to and from your computer, you can do that without using PC suite.

Re: Vodafone 845 - PC Suite not recognising phone

Hi,  I have tried installing it on three computers now with the same issue...  It's doing my head in.

The only reason I am trying to install it is so that I can back up all of my SMS/MMS messages.  I am like you and don't really like the suite but there is no toher way that I know of to back up the messages. :smileyhappy:

Re: Vodafone 845 - PC Suite not recognising phone

There are plenty of apps in the anxious market for backing up your sms amongst other things. Dunno what else to suggest with the pc suite. Although whenever this has happened to android phones in the past, it seems to always be related to sd card conflict. you may have to reset your phone completely after uve backed up your phone using an app from the market.
