When I tried to set up my pay as you go dongle I got a window up saying I had to activate the dongle and gave me three numbers
IMEI: 359.............
IMSI: 234.............
ICCID: 8944.....................
and to activate by either www.vodafone.co.uk or email activate@hotmail.co.uk
have tried searching for activation process without success and have sent email off to activate but not heard back yet so was hoping for information that can at least point me in the right direction.
I have already found the solution myself to my "activation priviledges" problems that noboby in the Vodafone shop was aware of by needing to upload XP Service 2 package as it is an old PC that I am trying to use.
Now I am being further hampered in using what is supposed to be a simple plug in and use product!!!!!!!!!
Your Frustrated

Don't understand any of that. Dongles don't need to be activated.
If you google that email address the only result is your posting, or a dating agency.
Yes you need to install SP2 on XP to run the VMC software then all should be well.

Hi tjwingchun and welcome to the eForum
Thanks for your post here. I'm sorry to hear about your issues in setting this up. I appreciate how frustrating this must be for you.
You will need to install service pack 2 in order for this to work. So let us know how you get on once you have done this. I'm confident that everything will work as it should once you have service pack 2 installed ![]()
Please let us know if you have any more questions and we'll be happy to help you further
Thanks
Wayne

Dongles do sometimes need to be activated by Vodas tech team... Not that they enjoy doing this.
Its unfortunate that the dongle doesnt run smoothly on a older PC but the specs are written on the box.
However the guys are right - SP2 does need to be installed unfortunatelly.

It was just the information from the window that popped up when the dongle failed to connect.
I have installed SP2 which allowed me to run the set up but it failed to connect and then I got the window with the information that I related, I will be going to the Vodafone shop where I purchased the dongle but I am not hopeful for that as they did not know about the SP2 requirement for older versions of XP.
Could it be bad reception even though my phone works fine from the same location?

I have already installed SP2 which allowed me to procede past the "administrative priviledges" problems but it failed to connect and put up the "activation" window. So I am afraid your confidence is ill placed! lol

The OP gave data for the actual dongle hardware. Yes SIMs need activating sometimes if they lapse, but dongles??
Doesn't need activating, needs installing properly and that usually means downloading a full variant VMC that supports both XP and the dongle. Google "Vodafone VMC v10" or "Vodafone VMC 9.4.6"
Re the OPs question about signal, when plugged into the USB for a good 30 seconds if the dongle flashes dark blue, you have a 3G signal nearby. Green flashing is GPRS, Double green flash or red is no signal or bad SIM

Boooooohhhh.... Shot down with tech speak
You started it .
There is a posting over on the mobile broadband section of the forum which shows a pic of a typical message. It shows not only very clear instructions, but the CORRECT email address to contact and a solution that the SIM has simply not been used enough to keep it alive.
