The message below referred to some important text messages I in the archive on the phone.

Your SIM can usually store about 10 text messages, the rest go onto the handset so if you discard the phone you may lose them.

Hi Pink Cloud,

There are a number of options in keeping messages.

You can copy these messages to another sim card that you could keep safe just in case. Alternatively you can, on some handsets back up your data on the pc using the software provided with the phone.

The Nokia 2630 doesnt have this option but you could always move the messages from the phone to the sim and use an alternative handset that has this function.

You can access the messages stored on the sim card by going in to Menu- Messaging- Sim Messages.

The phone is a Siemens S45 and in the quote (copied below) that I copied with my question Paul said that the important text messages in the archive that I want to retain are stored on the phone not the SIM.

Unfortunatley I'm not aware of Siemens providing a PC Suite with which to do this - so your only option would then be to transfer to your SIM card. If you have a look in your text messages, and the Options for each message, you may see the option to transfer to SIM card. Do you see this option?

A colleague has told me that www.zyb.com do not reply to emails and that they cover only the phones listed as being covered on their website which does not include my Siemens S45 phone.

On one occasion when I arrived in Portugal only to find that my phone did not work Vodafone at Faro airport put a machine over my phone and copied everything onto a Portuguese Sim. Is this not possible in the UK?

(Unfortunately the Portuguese Sim failed as I was not then aware of the use it or lose it procedure).

Although your phone isn't support for contact synchronisation, the facility which lets you send text messages to them will still work, so this is still a service worth signing up for. I would put any old phone in just to get past the initial setup, and then follow the instructions for SMS saving.

I'm still a bit puzzled by www.zyb.com and how to send them text messages. Is it like sending normal text messages as there are loads of them and the cost would be astronomical?

I don't know how they did their trick in Portugal but they did move all of the archived texts on to a Portuguese Sim.

I'm not aware of the state of Portuguese Sim memory size but I know that most Sims, at least in the UK just won’t have the storage space to store lots of messages.

A Vodafone Shop may be able to figure out how to copy your contacts to the SIM Card better than we can advise, so this is certainly the last resort You can use our store locator to find your nearest branch.

It was not totally resolved and that was all clearly set out in my email. I have been very patient since 12 April 2009 and had two emails from Vodafone saying my email was being dealt with and quoting #99017 and # 12751.
