I'm glad to see you've got it all sorted out
The message centre number is stored on the phone itself.
Don't hesitate to get back in touch if you need anything else.
Thanks

Thanks again MattyD and finger crossed all is still working.
The message below referred to some important text messages I in the archive on the phone.
Your SIM can usually store about 10 text messages, the rest go onto the handset so if you discard the phone you may lose them.

I really do need to make sure I don't lose these. How can I copy them or store them somewhere else please?

There are a number of options in keeping messages.
You can copy these messages to another sim card that you could keep safe just in case. Alternatively you can, on some handsets back up your data on the pc using the software provided with the phone.
The Nokia 2630 doesnt have this option but you could always move the messages from the phone to the sim and use an alternative handset that has this function.
You can access the messages stored on the sim card by going in to Menu- Messaging- Sim Messages.
All the best,
Dave

Hello Dave.
Thanks for your reply.
The phone is a Siemens S45 and in the quote (copied below) that I copied with my question Paul said that the important text messages in the archive that I want to retain are stored on the phone not the SIM.

It is important not to lose them and I would be grateful for your advice on storing them somewhere else or copying them. Transferring them to a PC would be ideal.
Kind regards

Hi pinkcloud,
Unfortunatley I'm not aware of Siemens providing a PC Suite with which to do this - so your only option would then be to transfer to your SIM card. If you have a look in your text messages, and the Options for each message, you may see the option to transfer to SIM card. Do you see this option?

Hello Jon
Thanks for your reply.
These texts are stored in the archive in the Outbox and Inbox.
The only options on each message are Send, Edit, Delete and Print via IrDA (whatever that is!)
The texts are important and I do need to save them in some form or other before the phone fails completely.
Would a Vodafone shop be able to help?
The phone also has a USB connection.
Kind regards

Hi again Pinkcloud,
In that case, I do have one last trick up my sleeve
I'd recommend you sign up for an account on www.zyb.com
As well as being able to backup your phone's address book, you can also send text messages to the service for safe-keeping.
Let me know if you need any assistance with the service

Thanks Jon that's a terrific idea but they seem not to support my Siemens S45 phone.
I've emailed them but am not hopeful.

Hello Jon
A colleague has told me that www.zyb.com do not reply to emails and that they cover only the phones listed as being covered on their website which does not include my Siemens S45 phone.
On one occasion when I arrived in Portugal only to find that my phone did not work Vodafone at Faro airport put a machine over my phone and copied everything onto a Portuguese Sim. Is this not possible in the UK?
(Unfortunately the Portuguese Sim failed as I was not then aware of the use it or lose it procedure).
Thanks again

Hi Pinkcloud,
Although your phone isn't support for contact synchronisation, the facility which lets you send text messages to them will still work, so this is still a service worth signing up for. I would put any old phone in just to get past the initial setup, and then follow the instructions for SMS saving.
With regards to the machine, this is called a SIM Reader, and there are plenty available in the UK - however, the problem here is that they only copy information from your SIM card, and as we've already established, the text messages are not stored on your SIM card.

Hello Jon
Thanks for all of your help with this.
I'm still a bit puzzled by www.zyb.com and how to send them text messages. Is it like sending normal text messages as there are loads of them and the cost would be astronomical?
I don't know how they did their trick in Portugal but they did move all of the archived texts on to a Portuguese Sim.

It would cost the same as a normal sms so 12p. You'll get information on how to send the sms when you sign up to the service.
I'm not aware of the state of Portuguese Sim memory size but I know that most Sims, at least in the UK just won’t have the storage space to store lots of messages.
Let us know what you think of Zyb once you've tried it out
Cheers

Hi pinkcloud,
A Vodafone Shop may be able to figure out how to copy your contacts to the SIM Card better than we can advise, so this is certainly the last resort

Hi pinkcloud,
I believe this email will have been marked as closed as a result of you letting us know it had been resolved. I will send you a new one now.
eForum Team
Oh dear Jon
I hope not.
It was not totally resolved and that was all clearly set out in my email. I have been very patient since 12 April 2009 and had two emails from Vodafone saying my email was being dealt with and quoting #99017 and # 12751.
I really do not want to start again at the beginning of the queue.

I apologise for the confusion over this. I've checked your email history with us, and as it's not an account specific question I can answer it here...
So to answer your question, you could collect a replacement SIM from a Vodafone Store, yes
