My 50 day early upgrade isn't till October and I want to upgrade earlier than this to a new phone, preferbly a blackberry
What ways can I go about upgrading earlier? Could I possibly take the remaining months of this contract and add them to a new contract?

As you have mentioned, the earliest you would be eligible to upgrade would be 50 days before the end of your contract and that is the maximum length you are able to add onto an existing commitment.
Purchase a new Blackberry at your own expense, carry on using your current contract with the addition of BIS for an extra cost of £5.00 per month.
Cancel out your present contract paying the early termination fee which will leave you free to negotiate a new contract which will include BIS.
Take out an additional line with a new number and a new phone which would mean paying for two contract until you are able to cancel your present contract.

As far as I am aware the 3 options that AnnS has given you will be what you have to choose from:
- Buy your own phone
- Cancel your contract (with the termination fees)
- Take out an additional line with a new number and pay for 2 contracts.
Perhaps one of the Moderators can confirm that is the case?
You are right, Vodafone used to allow earlier upgrades but have changed it to the current policy of allowing upgrades within the last 50 days of your contract back in February this year. You will be able to read more about the changes here
