Hi,

Have they clarified why they won't accept what Vodafone offer.

I assume your referring to >  https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201487

And https://support.vodafone.co.uk/Account-bill-and-top-up/Lost-stolen-and-damaged/Warranty-and-insuranc...

Does this help from Apple > https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201487

Thanks for contacting us. We received your information, but we couldn’t complete your unlock request for Find My iPhone.

Product: iPhone

Serial number: C38NW60JG5MR

We need the original sales receipt to show proof of purchase of the product. To be considered valid, the receipt must include this information:

1. Reseller’s name, address, and phone number or website URL

2. Date of purchase when the product was originally sold

3. Itemized product information, including price and product serial number

The serial number can be typed or handwritten. If the reseller didn’t provide the serial number on the receipt, you can write the number on the receipt before you send it. For help finding your product’s serial number, see this article:

How to find the serial number of your Apple hardware product

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1349

If your receipt doesn’t include the above list of information, you can try taking a screenshot of your online receipt. You can also contact the authorized reseller to get a copy of your receipt.

If the receipt you send us doesn’t include all of the information, we can’t complete your request.

For more information on Find My iPhone Activation Lock, see this article:

When you’re ready to submit your proof of purchase,  contact us by phone.  To find the right phone number, see this article:

Make sure you have your case number and your product’s serial number when you call.

Thats the reply i got, when i spoke to them directly they said they couldnt confirm why they would not accept this as is a different department. They told me sellers are llegally required to keep invoices for upto 5 years and i should be able to get hold of it. Been without my phone for 5 days now.

Hi,

Yes I can understand why Apple would want specific information and paperwork to support who the owner is.

After all this is connection to an iPhones core security.

Does the Apple link I pasted in which is centered around a forgotten Apple ID password help ?

Vodafone would I assume only be able to provide the information they can via the request form.

Is there no way of you continuing to try known passwords ?

thanks for the replies btw. Yes but because i have two factor authentication i need two of either:

-phone

-number

-password

Due to my phone being restored i only have access to my phone number in another phone. I am trying that but limited to a couple of tries a day and i know this password is unique to this account and dont use it anywhere else.

Ok.

I've myself used iPhones for quite a number of years and understand all too well how iPhones are security protected to stop unauthorised use.

Personally i chose not to use two factor authentication but that's by the by.

Did Vodafone supply any paperwork at the time of the transaction ?

Did the Vodafone Store confirm they no longer have a copy on their in-store computer system ?

I wish you all the best with this.

Yes i will be removing it once i get this sorted. They would have but i purchased the phone over 25 months ago now. Instore they just said we dont have it here and all you could do is the proof of pruchase form.

Unfortunately I can only reiterate what the store has already advised you. We're unable to provide the original receipt.

Please seek further advice from Apple.

I had to recover my account to get access to my phone. Must be quite a few vodafone apple customers that have the same issue and the customer service of 'thats all we can provide' does not help at all.

There are services that will store receipts online for you - though you need to be aware that, if they disappear or you lose access, you lose the recipts, too.   I try to keep mine on paper in one place.  I don't know of any retailer who will search their records for till receipts though, if you bought online, your account may show the details.

As Lee says, heavy security is part of Apple's schtick, so there would be no way round their requirement for cast-iron proof of ownership.  I don't think they even accept proof of use with an IMEI, which can be enough in some cases.
