Hi there. Firstly the speeds and setup on my broadband have been great, so has most of the customer support I have had with initial gremlins on setup

I do have two big headaches though. I have a zyxcel nsa325 network drive which I store music, photos, movies etc on and On my old plusnet modem I just plugged it in the ethernet port and my Hitachi tv saw it. Now although the drive is visible through my PC and is visible wordlessly on the home network, the drive is not seen by my TV *unless the drive is plugged directly into the the ethernet port on the TV. So what setting am missing, there is no help or suggestions on the net, with it being a new modem there is no firmware 6 for it either.

Secondly, when I signed up for vodafone home broadband I was told that I would get 10 email addresses too, I have no idea where they are or indeed the pop/imap.plus.net settings for the addresses or the settings so I can send emails on my current email address.

Hope someone can help and thanks in advance

Mick

OK, Sorry I couldn't help any further: Been in computers my whole working life (since 71) and repeatability used to be the standard, do this this and this and it would work first time every time. Now there's just to many 'smarts' getting in the way: Windows 10 and it's smart network, vodafone and it's smart router, nas boxes with their 'easy' config.... Obviously been built for 60 somethings (er, me!) with their one or two computers (how many?) not where everything is networked (my tele, sky, DVD, media centre, phones, tablets, even my bedside radio is networked!!)

I just hate "well it works for me" even when it's me saying it. Granted in my config I've no repeaters confusing the issue. Hopefully one day it'll all work... (flying pigs?)  🙂

I have proved via tracing and got the guys to replicate my issue (when using other access points in my network).
They are writing fix currently.

I don't have any problems if I just use the connect only ... This just isn't practical for house size/shape... Need the 2 additional APs plus I turn off the connect wifi and plug old router in for now to bridge that gap (my workaround)

Good stuff
At least you have connectivity now and it will work for you 🙂
Glad I could help ..

I will give it a try if I have time over the weekend see if i can get the same

Like I said before I not used 5ghz at all.

(but I remember before you couldnt split the SSID on diff frequencies on prev FW and my MBP loved the 5ghz).

When I got the new FW and still had my same issues (with APs in my network) I took 5ghz straight out out the equation and focused on 2.4 only and found what i found and left it at that.

but i will test similar to see if i get the same, will need to check to see if this feature is known with support..

Maybe why some others are having with just the connect router are having issues post latest FW with newer devices that connect to 5ghz??

I think with just connect on 2.4 it should all be ok.. i seems to have no problems until APs were introduced in my network.

On the 5Ghz network my MBp couldn't see the powerline devices either so I will test connecting the server direct to the router and MBP on the 5Ghz to see the effect.

Again case for letting us use our own routers!!

@jaketame

The business case for not allowing users to have their own modem / router makes sense when you consider that it makes troubleshooting from VodaFone's perspective much easier.

What they have done is cripple the router enough that it is easy to fix and fits the majority of use case scenarios. The problem is that the router is not fit for purpose as it neglects a lot of advanced, and even some very general use cases. Hence this thread.

While I am sure that the tech team will fix most general use cases with a Firmware update at some stage, I feel that the policy of allowing anything other than basic customisation will remain firmly in place.

This in mind, I have set the VodaFone router as effectively modem only and left the basic networking stuff to more capable routers.

I should add that the general level of support that VF provide is pretty damn good in my experience so far, no complaints that way.

Little disappointed with the router which I imagine was rushed out with insufficent testing, but if you are fortunate enough to have spare hardware laying around it's workable. For those that have not however, it must be maddening.

Things I'd like to see in the next update;

  1. NAT hairpinning
  2. Internal DNS pointing
  3. Switchable WiFi isolation (both frequencies and "Guest" or otherwise)

Other than that, it meets my needs.

Hi Everyone,

Please speak to our Broadband team here.

Please let us know how you get on.

Thanks,

Sarah

This is incredibly poor. If your router doesn't work with SONOS, Android TV, etc you should be telling people before they take out a contract. I'm not a techie person, I don't want to be faffing around buying extra equipment. Will be cancelling my contract.

It's not that simple. There were issues WITH DLNA and media servers. This was rectified with a firmware update. The current issue is with the use of access points and the router losing the ability to communicate between wlan and lan after roaming.

I had no issue when the router was used in isolation.
