Better contract offer since I signed; is it a pipedream to ask if I can adapt?

Hi
I am 7 months into a 24-month contract, offering 600 minutes, unlimited texts and 750mb data and HTC Desire S. Lately, I have been seeing similar and better both through Vodafone and elsewhere for considerably less - for example, the closest deal to what I have now is a full £10 cheaper, and with twice as many minutes and an extra 250mb data. And that's just with Vodafone; look elsewhere and there are similar contracts to that with monthly costs as low as £20pcm (through '3').
Where I know I signed the contract in good faith, I can't help but feel aggreaved that in such a short space of time it is possible for people to get a better deal for less.
What I'm asking is, is it at all possible to negotiate pre-existing account features to comply with these other deals?
As an aside, I keep reading forum comments about '30 day's notice of cancellation' for moving to a different provider. Does this apply to everyone, or just those nearing the end of their contract? The information on the Vodafone website is a little ambiguous.
Thanks in advance
Andy

No you can't change tarrif mid term unless you are looking at spending more money than you are now,
you signed upto a deal you were happy with at the time for a duration you were happy with, now you are stuck with it,
The 1 month cancelation notice can be given at any point in the term, however the most reliable method of ending a contract early is to request a PAC and use it to port your number to a new provider ending your current contract
ending a contract early by any method will cost you the early termination fee,
number of months remaining * monthly fee (less VAT) with a 2% rebate

Thanks, I assumed that would be the case but if you don't ask you don't get. I'll know now to be a lot more careful with my choice when my contract is up.

Sorry to hijack, but this might help me with an unrelated question.
I have a little over two months to run on my contract, but wouldn't mind an upgrade and I'm not bothered about switching provider if need be if I get a good deal, BUT I really want to keep my number.
If I request a PAC and port the number, will this end my contract and just result in the ETF (which I don't mind paying of course, given I'm under contract!)? Will VF let me just take the number to another network despite my being under contract?

BBG, I think you've got that pretty much spot-on. So long as you pay the early termination fee Vodafone aren't going to put any obstacles in your way. In fact if they did so they'd attract the attention of the regulator, who insists that customers may ask for a PAC and leave at any time they wish ( providing they pay up their committment.)

As per my other thread, thanks again Biffo.
Just been on to get my PAC, appears I was cut off as it was going home time.....looks like I'll be signing up elsewhere tomorrow.
That said, thanks yet again - I've not posted much but the help in this forum is rather excellent.
