Cannot change email address without deleting account? Ridiculous

After failing to be able to change my e-mail address linked to my account view the online webform due to a constant return of the error 'Validation Error', I e-mailed customer support to get it changed.
First off the response was addressed to Michael when my name is Sam so off to a great start, I was then informed that my e-mail address cannot be changed without deleting my entire online account and signing back up with the new address. I find this ridiculous that such a simple piece of information cannot be changed without deleting everything on my online account.
All I want to do is switch to a new e-mail address as the current one has been comprimised and I need to delete it for safety.
Surely thats possible without deleting my entire account?

Hi there
I do wonder if perhaps the problem is caused by you having your email address as both your username and your contact email. First off, please could I ask you change your username. Once in you account, scroll down to the My Details section and click on Manage:
Select My Login details and then Edit Log in Details:
On the next screen update your username:
Once you have done that Click on My Personal Details and then click on Edit:
In the next screen you can update your e-mail address:
If that doesn't work, I would guess that there is a problem with the functionality in My Account - try leaving it for 24 hours and see if it works.

I have changed my login name and I still get the same error as before, I will try again tomorrow after work.

I had the same problem when I changed ISPs a month or two back. The Tech Team on this forum sorted it all out for me, they were able to do so without deleting my online account so far as I know. However Vodafone rather laughably are still sending the odd email to my old email address, despite the fact that both my eforum account and my VF account are only showing the new one - I presume they have other systems which we can't access. Not that I'm bothered if they want to send adverts into an electronic black hole, that's their prerogative.
I don't rely on their emails, I check my own bills regularly.
So, hold on for a day or two and someone from the Tech Team will be along to help you with this. This is a known fault, you won't be able to sort it out yourself. As an IT consultant myself I have to say GOK what their IT team does for its corn, but fixing the website doesn't seem to form part of it !!

I'm sure we'll be able to help with this for you.
One thing I do notice is that you've been referring to an issue with My Account but, looking at the posts in this thread, would I be correct in saying that you have reregistered for the eForum to change username from samhawes151 to sam151?
I only want to check this first as the eForum and My Account are two separate systems developed independantly of each other, and as such the logins are separate and unconnected. When you say you had changed username, have you done this on both systems or just the eForum?

Hi,
I've also been told I can't change my email address without first deleting my account and then re-registering. My username is completely different to my email address so I don't understand what the issue is.
Like other users, I don't see why I should have to re-register all over again, just to have a bill sent to my new address.
Could someone please contact me regarding updating my details without having to go through the painful registration process all over again?
