I am going on holiday and want to ensure I'm not charged for data services and roaming charges. If I switch off my data service and roaming charges will I just be charged for phone calls and text messages? What would you recommend to avoid unwanted charges?

Switch off data / data when roaming (depending on handset)....another way is to change your apn to prepay/a phony one - that way you can confirm it won't connect before you go....

These are the best ways, most phones now have settings that can clearly allow you to switch off data when roaming, I would post your handset details and someone can take you through it if you cannot find it.
Remember that Vodafone offers a Data Traveller service which for £2 per day gives you 25MB , its worth considering too
