My Vodafone app - data billing accuracy

[ Edited ]
Hi all, can one of the mods please confirm the behaviour of the 'My Vodafone' application, as I'm concerned that it's not reading right.

I'm in the first 3 months of my contract, so have the unlimited data trial active for another 70-odd days. I ran up 'My Vodafone' for the first time today, and it's showing the following:

3 Month Data Test Drive
257MB Used
Promotion will expire in 75 days

Now, I know for a fact that I've used significantly more data than that. I used over 800MB in the first few days from my unwittingly syncing Picasa albums via the Samsung gallery (see my other thread on the subject...). In fact, the 'data usage' screen on the phone shows me as having used over 2GB in the 2 weeks I've had the phone, and 3G Watchdog shows me as having used 3.28GB.

So the question is this: what is 'My Vodafone' reporting? I can only assume it's one of 3 things:

a) The total data I've used since I started the plan, regardless of cost (i.e., how much free data I've used in the trial - in which case I'd expect to see a figure > 2.0GB.
b) Data usage that isn't included in my plan, and that I'm being billed for (in which case I'd expect it to show zero, since I'm supposedly on unlimited free data for the next 75 days).
c) Something else - in which case what?!?

Given the repeated failings (which are still unresolved) mentioned in this thread, it concerns me that the 'My Vodafone' app seems to be similarly unreliable for data usage billing.

How are people supposed to manage their monthly bills if the tools that Vodafone provides are ambiguous or - worse still - fundamentally inaccurate?

Re: My Vodafone app - data billing accuracy

Hi Webreaper,

The My Vodafoene app is uptp 72hours out of date so if you have used a large amount of data in the past few days it may not have shown yet

Re: My Vodafone app - data billing accuracy

Hi Webreaper,

Nabs is spot on here however, you will also find that the data reported on the app will be the data since your allowance restarted. (This is no longer at the beginning of the month due to anniversary billing)

Also the data that the application gives will only show the data that would have come out of your allowance which does not include any WIFI usage or any pinging data that is used to keep you updated on the network.

Basically every time you move to a different cell data is pinged to the network to verify where you are however, this is not chargeable data.

I would look at your online account to match up your unbilled data, if this is the same then the figures on the app are correct, if they are different, please let us know so we can investigate this further for you.

Re: My Vodafone app - data billing accuracy

Did you actually read the post I wrote?

My phone is reporting 3.2GB usage since I got the new phone, which was two weeks ago. At least 2GB was in the first week so the 72hr delay is irrelevant. The website shows the same as the app, but neither bear any relevance to actual usage. It doesn't matter whether the billing period is calendar month or contract-start month, it's wrong....

Hi Webreaper,

I did read your post.

However, I was referring you to the online account as the data shown on this is the same as your actual Vodafone account which is reflected on the application.

If you did use 3GB within the first week it is possible that a new bill cycle has begun since then and the data captured on the phone is all the data however as explained in my post we don’t charge for every bit of data due to some of it being network traffic.

If you would like us to check the account to see what is been used in the current or last bill cycle please follow the instructions on the PM that I have sent to you.

However, as mentioned this will only show the data that is classed as chargeable data and nothing through WIFI or standard network data pings.

You can find your PM inbox here.
