I checked my upgrade date online two weeks ago and it said I was due at the end of this month which I thought sounded about right (two years ago is a long time the remember). I have just check again and it has now changed to the start of June?
I tried ringing Vodafone but they were closed. I couldn't find any information in my account online and then the website shut down - very useful! So I resorted to live chat and this is all the response I got:
I have checked your account and can see that your contract start date is 06/09/2010 and end date is 05/09/2012.
Dhara: You are eligible for an upgrade on 07/06/2012
You: What would be the cost of ending the contract earlier to transfer to another provider?
Dhara: As you wish to cancel the contract before your contract end date, you will be charged an Early Termination Fee of £180.48.
Dhara: I understand you like the 190 days early upgrade option that we used to offer.
Dhara: But we have stopped offering this option because this option turned out to be very expensive for most subscribers.
Dhara: It is because with 190 days early upgrade our customers were paying early upgrade fee (from £20 to £100), one off-cost for handset (range from £50 to £200) and were not able to get 24 months contract and choice of handsets.
Dhara: Also tariff with this upgrade was higher than 90 days early upgrade.
Dhara: With all calculation, surveys and feedback from our customers we found that the option was very expensive for most customers and so we closed this offer as it was not under any contract agreement.
You: I'm very unsure about the start date of the contract as I was working at the time and remember having my current phone way before that time
Dhara: As per our records, your contract start date is 06/09/2010 and end date is 05/09/2012.
You: I'm away from home at the moment so do not have documentation but I do remember having the handset as early as July. Would it be possible I changed the contract nearer September, could that be checked?
Dhara: I would like to inform you that you have upgraded your contract on 06/09/2010.
You: Ok does it state what I changed? I can't remember at all
Dhara: Yes, as you have upgraded your contract on 06/09/2010 your contract start date is 06/09/2010.
You: I'm afraid this doesn't make sense as to why I can't upgrade my phone at the correct time (at the end of this month) because I changed my contract months later. My original start date of the contract would have been much earlier.
It went round in circles for a while like this!
I have just found an email saying that I added Sure signal in July 2010 (this contract was only 12months) and insurance (obviously ongoing).
Can someone please explain why I can't upgrade at the right time because I added to my contract and they decided to draw up another one for me??

You were able to do online upgrades 6 months early until very recently (at a £££ premium), but this was removed making all upgrades 70/90 days. This may be (one of the reasons) why your upgrade date last week differs from now...

The EXACT same thing has just happened to me!
I checked last month and it said I could upgrade from 02 Feb 2012 -- I logged in today and the date has now moved to May 2012!

exact same to me. The live advisors are rubbish if you ask me. I was told i could upgrade Feb 17, now i can't upgrade until May 27!! I would never reccomend Vodafone to anyone. They are pure rubbish.
