Why can I not delay My Contract???

Posted from Facebook
Dear Vodafone..big fan, not only of the McLaren F1 Team (congrats Hamilton), but I was always satisfied with the service. I currently study in London, therefore I have gotten and english contract plus phone. I also have a german contract plus phone. I need to go to China for 1 year, before returning to London. I have already decided to take a 1 year Vodafone contract with the new Iphone 5. My question arose when I went to different store location to ask for a cancelation of my contract. I was told to pay a massive fee. To be frank I do not remember agreeing to this in my contract, but I am a student and still have to learn about these things. Anyway, I have asked two questions to each shop, which none could answer. 1. Could I not have one international contract instead of these of having 3 separate ones. 2. Could I not simply delay my english contract for one year, until I am back from China. In this case it would not be Vodafone loosing money as I simply open another account for the period of one year. In reality they gain me as a customer for another year. As I mentioned I am a student and such a high fee is hard to cover. I want to stay with Vodafone, also I was sent from the shops to the call center, which sent me here. I just wanted to know, if it is possible to delay my contract for one year. Thank You very much. Regards Jonas

Hello JonasMy

If you do a search of the forum, you can usually find the answer to many previous asked questions.  Here are two but you would probably be able to find some more.

http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Pay-Monthly-Services/Suspension-of-account-whilst-abroad/td-p/697425

http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Pay-Monthly-Services/Armed-forces-plan-freeze/td-p/1157865

The agreement you have with Vodafone UK is to pay a minimum amount each month for a period of months after which time you can cancel the agreement with 30 days notice, if you wish to leave before the end of the commitment period, you will have to pay the early cancellation charges.

If you know of anyone trustworthy in the UK who would be willing to take over the contract and continue with the payments, a change of contract ownership could be arranged.

If your phone is in good condition, you could consider selling the phone and putting the proceeds towards paying off part of the contract.

Re: Why can I not delay My Contract???

One thing is that voda uk are a separate company than voda germany, voda spain etc,

they all are owned by the voda group but have to poerate as separate entities,

also the legal and regulatory framework isn't in place to allow them to operate as one company within the EU, let alone beyond

This is why you cannot get an international contract

As for the susspension, vf do not offer this unless you are a serving member of the armed forces being posted abroard,

Note I do not work for voda, My advice comes from experience and my opinions are my own
