If you really have finished your current contract and gone to a monthly rolling one then that advice does not sound correct to me. You might try calling again and if they still say "no" then insist on being given a proper reason. I suspect though that you'll find your contract is not as finished as you thought, don't forget that any previous upgrade prior to the end of your contract will have resulted in the remaining time being added to your current contract.
Alternatively try #VodafoneUKdeals on twitter, they specialise in upgrades not BS.

In that case I'm totally bamboozled - I've never had a SIM-only deal so I have no idea what they are talking about. OK my son had one and was able to cancel with a month's notice, but that's as much as I know. Perhaps you'd better wait for one of the Tech Team to come along in a day or so - not what you want to hear, I know !!!

Kim, I'm guessing you may have been on a 12 month SIM only deal hence why you are not able to upgrade until next month.
Given your situation the upgrade specialists on the @vodafoneukdeals twitter team should be able to help. For info on how to contact them head over here and follow the instructions. They are a small and very popular team so they may not reply straight away, stick around though as one of the team will get back to you as soon as they can.

Hi KimDonovan,
Thanks for posting and thanks guys for your help.
I’d love to see if we’re able to arrange an upgrade for you.
Please follow the instructions in the private message I've just sent and a member of the team will be in touch as soon as possible. You can find your PM Inbox here.
I look forward to hearing from you very soon.
Let me take this opportunity to show you how Vodafone like to say thank you; take a look at VIP.
Cheers
Ian

Hi,
I contacted vodafone in Decemeber and was advised that if I upgraded to an Iphone 4s I coudl be upgraded 190 days early, and was told if I phoned back in March, they would arrange it for me.
However when I phoned back today, I was told that I couldnt upgrade until July, why has it suddenly changed? The person I spoke to this morning told me that they no longer do upgrades 190 days early, but as I was advised this in December can Vodafone not honour the verbal agreement?
Would really appreciate someones advice on this matter
Thanks
Amy

It has changed for the reasons you state - Vodafone have withdrawn "early upgrades" ( i.e. upgrades 190 days before the end of your contract ), ostensibly because of the many complaints about the prices from customers who believed it was some sort of contractual committment rather than a special favour for those desperate to upgrade. More recently they have withdrawn 90-day and 70-day upgrades, and now no-one can upgrade until; their contract has 50 days or less to run. That to me is starting to indicate that some sort of cashflow problem is now driving the upgrade policy, but I'm sure you can draw your own conclusions.
Anyway, believe me you really really really would not have wanted an iPhone4S on a 190-day upgrade, it would have cost you so much that you might just as well have gone out and bought one SIM-free. If you could actually afford that and were happy to do so, then you do have the option of paying off the remaining months of your existing contract and migrating to one of the attractive iPhone4S deals available from the independent suppliers ( who are not having prices dictated to them by Apple in the same was as the networks are. )
