Hello

I'm planning on moving from O2 to Vodafone but i keep finding different information on whether tethering is included in my monthly data usage or if its all extra costs the moment i activate tethering

I'm going for the £10.50 300 min, unlimited texts, 500Mb option

Would someone be able to confirm?

Hi Andrew,

Tethering is included on all iphone tariffs from around the middle of last year. As long as you stick to your monthly allowance there will be no additional charge. If you find yourself going over your allowance you might want to look at one of the tethering packs available

I assume you know already but just in case you can find instructions of how to tether your iPhone here

The question here is specific to sim-only - I have been given two different answers by Vodafone sales but the last person seemed convinced that on a 12 month sim-only contract tethering was only available by purchasing an additional tethering pack...

I'm going to call again.

I phoned again and was told no - but only after I asked the guy to go and check as up until then he said it was fine... You need to pay £5 extra to use iPhone tethering with sim-only...Although I did establish that you can get tethering with T Mobile for £13 a month (£8 + £5 Internent) on a 12 month sim only contract...

Tethering is included as part of the data in all of the new price plans including SIM only and the plan you have described is, this can be seen on our SIM only tariffs.

That doesn't really answer the question. I've been told 2 different things by vodafone this week - one person said that tethering isn't included if you use an iPhone on a sim only deal , and that you have to get an iPhone specific sim only deal. The other voda person I spoke to says tethering is included - who is right?

As per Dave's statement above SIM only contracts with a dataplan include tethering.

Also there is no longer any iPhone specific SIM only plans, they all now come under the 'Smartphone' umbrella.

Only Blackberry now requires specific plans because of the BBS subscription needed.

Can a mod let me know if/how I can activate tethering on my plan? I'm not sure what my plan is so can pm me for any details. I have tried to set it up but I get directed to the Voda website to set it up.

Hi I'm having the same problem with Tethering. I used to have tethering on my plan and recently changed my plan to the SIM only plan with 1GB data, 900 minutes etc etc. I called customer services and they say that they can only enable tethering on an iPhone plan. Obviously SIM only plans only have Smartphone plan which is the one I have. Mods please can you assist in getting this sorted.

Apologies for going over old ground, but I was thinking of signing up to a SIM only plan for myself and my wife. Could you please confirm that iPhone tethering is definitely included within the plan and that no additional charge/bolt-on would be required?

Would we need to request that one of the tech team on this forum looks at our SIM only accounts once we've signed up in order to activate the tethering?

My experience has been that the £20.50 SIM Only(12-Month)  tariff hasn't got tethering enabled.  I think there's a problem on the way the tariff has been set up.   

The £26.00 12-month SIM only plan has got tethering enabled. 

Not sure why the £20.50 plan doesn't have this enabled.  I'm still waiting for Vodafone to check and resolve this.

I have raised this before but still hasnt been sorted.  The 12-Month Sim Only plan with 900 minutes; 1GB data, unlimited texts for £20.50 per month (normally £26 per month) doesnt have this enabled.  Having called customer services several times they haven't been able to sort this out.  They just say that tethering isn't enabled and I need to take a seperate package for this.  One of them even said that for tethering I need to be in a BT Openzone hotspot - obviously doesn't know what tethering is!

On the 12 month SIM only plan for £26 - 3000 minutes; 1GB data unlimited texts I can confirm that tethering works perfectly.  It's just the 900 minute plan that it definitely doesn't work.  Have tried it on 3 seperate contracts ; my brother; my wife and myself.  

I got a PM and provided my details but disappointingly still hasn't been resolved.

I have now had a call from Vodafone and they have confirmed that the SIM Only 12-month deal for £20.50 (900 Minutes; 1GB Data; Unlimited Texts and UK calls to Vodafone) does not have tethering enabled becuase it's on a special offer.  Normal tariff is £26 and it's been discounted to £20.50  The tariff actually appears on the online page the link of which has been posted by on the the mods in an earlier post.  He acknowledged that the forum is a bit misleading when it says that all new SIM only tariffs have tethering included.   He offered to put me on a £26.00 tariff which would include tethering.  

I then called to cancel my contract and after much debate (30 minutes on the phone)  they managed to put me on a similar price plan at the same cost and enable tethering.  At least it's sorted but it wasn't simple!

Vodafone need to look at this before confirming (incorrectly) that tethering is enabled on ALL SIM only price plans.

Hi Dave and other Vodafone Tech's on this forum.

Just switched from O2 to Vodafone.  Took the £26 (on offer at £20.50).  As no iPhone option on the Sim Only plans I took the Smartphone option, seemed like the obvious one yeah!

Read this Forum and made sure Tethering was included, and based on you guys comments it is.

Got connected with my new Vodafone sim on my iPhone and guess what, no tethering.  I call customer services to be told that ONLY ON AN IPHONE is it NOT included, I actually need an iPhone plan which is only available with a phone and not on Sim Only.

The guy spoke with his manager and then with Tech and I was on the phone for over 30 mins.  Here I am now stuck on a plan that doesn't tether, which is one of my main requirements.

You guys really need to get your story straight.

For anyone else.  If you have your own iPhone and you're coming over as Sim Only - there is NO OPTION to tether.  All other devices are included under the "Smartphone" option, just not iPhone.

Customer for only a week and already hacked off!
