Hi,
I have recently applied for a mortgage and to my surprise the application was declined. Reason - credit check fail. The thing is that I have never missed a payment on anything and so my financial adviser told me to get my credit report from experian and find out what is causing the issue. What I discovered is that Vodafone recorded a default on my account that I believed has been closed in November 2012 (the default is for huge £14). The contract has run out at that time and so I contacted Vodafone and told them to close the account and that I'll be moving my number to O2 and so I did. As far as I was concerned my Vodafone account was settled. Vodafone never contacted my about the £14. If they did I would have paid it. Even if the payment was to be one month late it would not damage my credit profile. Is it even legal to default my account without some sort of communication to let me know?
Straight after I got my credit report I called Vodafone and paid the £14 over the phone. (the account will soon show as settled but the default will stay) I asked them if I can get the default removed from my credit file and they couldn't tell me so they asked me to wait and that they will be in touch within 5 days. Yeah right... I called them again after 5 days and asked them to remove the default. I was told that it cannot be done because I did not pay my bill for 10 months. I was furious after the phone call. How can I pay for a bill that I dont know even existed?
I would really appriciate some help with this matter. I know that some people have been successful with getting the default removed.

Hi @Almendra
This will need to be done via email now, as we can’t discuss account specific queries on the eForum.
I can see your email in our inbox, so we’ll be in touch as soon as we can.
Thanks,
Jenny

Hi again,
Unfortunately I am not satisfied with the response I have received. I have been recommended to escalate this and make a formal complaint. Please would you advise me on how to do this?
Regards

Hi, I have a similar situation to many of the posters in this thread. I closed an account with Vodafone back in July 2014 over the phone as I was moving to a new provider, and was told that everything was settled and there were no further payments on the account. As far as I knew that was that and I didn't receive any letters or bills after that date.
I came to check my credit file in January and noticed I had a default on the account for an amount of £14. This was removed from the record but no change has happened to my credit file.
Who do I need to contact to investigate this further.

Hi, I also have a similar experience to many others on this thread. Have been a vf customer for over 4 years, and never missed a payment. A couple of months ago, I requested a PAC, paid the ETF, and moved elsewhere. There has been no further communication from vf, yet I have just checked my credit file to find that I have defaulted on a payment, after I had paid the ETF. I would be grateful if somebody could look into this please, as I believe there has been an error, and would wish to resolve this soonest.

Hi I am in exactly the same position as many of the other posters. I have checked my credit report today 20/05/2015 and it is showing a default balance of £39 for the last 2 years. I closed my account in April 2013 and settled the account in full, I have had no further correspondance regarding late payments or owing any more money otherwise I would have paid the small amount of £39. I have called Vodafone who have said that they cannot find me on the system. Therefore how can I owe a default balance if I have not been contacted regarding owing £39 and especially given the fact that I am not on their system? This has had a massive impact on my credit report as I have never missed a payment on any of my credit accounts but still find it hard to find credit and have an extremely poor credit rating because of this. Like every body else on here this is not only affecting myself but my family. Please can someone help me in rectifying this problem and removing this default from my account?
