3G doesnt work but H is fine?

Had this phone since launch and the 3G data has never worked. When connected to H the data is rapid, but for someone it constantly changes to 3G and times out.

To fix i need to turn off data and reconnect which is really frustrating.

I'm on the latest official firmware and this is driving me insane!

1). Does the issue happen in just one location - No     2). Does the issue occur if you try your SIM card in a different phone? - Don't have another Vodafone phone to test     3). Can you check your coverage here? Please bear in mind that this is only a guideline and can never be 100% accurate, particularly for indoor coverage. - "Variable speed"   4). Can you check our Faults Board, which contains all the mast issues we’re aware of. - its fine   5). Does this issue happen on 2G/3G or both. To check this, you can amend your phone's network settings, our Help Centre contains all the instructions, just select your model of phone and then select "network". - 3G connection times out, H works fine always switches to 3G and times out   6). What is the full postcode of where the issue occurs (if you’re uncomfortable with this appearing on the forum, then please add it to your profile by clicking “My eForum Settings” on the front page and then selecting “Personal Information”. - Evrerywhere   7). How far you have to travel to get signal - n/a   8). Do you get any error messages/tones if you’re having problems with calling/texting - n/a I've looked this problem up and it seems to be pretty common! For a smartphone not to be able to hold a signal is rather embarrassing and not acceptable

1). Does the issue happen in just one location?

No

2). Does the issue occur if you try your SIM card in a different phone?

No i receive data over 3G fine from my old iphone, i will point out tho due to a seperate issue i am on my third handset inside the past month and each of the 3 has the same issue.

3). Can you check your coverage here? Please bear in mind that this is only a guideline and can never be 100% accurate, particularly for indoor coverage.

4). Can you check our Faults Board, which contains all the mast issues we’re aware of.

I spoke with vodafone and there are no faults in my area.

5). Does this issue happen on 2G/3G or both. To check this, you can amend your phone's network settings, our Help Centre contains all the instructions, just select your model of phone and then select "network".

The phone for the most part will only transfer data over HSDPA or HSDPA+ when in 3G mode it tries to but just either times out or drops off totaly it has never once switched to EDGE data as a back up.

6). What is the full postcode of where the issue occurs (if you’re uncomfortable with this appearing on the forum, then please add it to your profile by clicking “My eForum Settings” on the front page and then selecting “Personal Information”

G401BN

7). How far you have to travel to get signal

N/A

8). Do you get any error messages/tones if you’re having problems with calling/texting.

N/A

Hope this helps

Hi andy1911

Thank you for your post and for taking the time to complete the template. :smileyhappy:

I can see from our Faults Board that there are two known issues in the G40 area and if you subscribe to the threads you will be notified of any changes as they happen.

Many Thanks

Re: 3G doesnt work but H is fine?

I have also had this problem from the start.
Have contacted vodafone from early in in the problem, now 3 months later I still have this problem.
I have been told twice that its a problem with 3g on vodafones end, three times I have done factory resets and fresh installs, all of which there is no change whatsoever. I have been charged over my limit for data a few times now, yet I'm not actually getting a web page to display!!!!
Similar card has now been changed and guess what, still does not work!!!

Now, I have been told it needs to go in for repair by. The vodafone shop, but I can't have a temp replacement phone as I choose not to take vodafones insurance, I need a phone at all times at work as I'm out and about and have a very ill baby who I may need to be alerted has been taken to hospital!!

I'm furious that I now need to go and PAY for a phone so this phone can be made to work correctly!!

I'm not alone here, there is obviously a problem somewhere, but its like the only Sony Ericson charging port problem all I get is 'oh not heard this problem before'

Rant over....

This problem is not specific to that post code it also happens when at home so it spans over 2 post codes.
G401BN
G320PP
why would i have been told over the phone there is no problems in either post code??
3g has never worked on this phone but it worked fine on my iphone.

Re: 3G doesnt work but H is fine?

Hi andy1911

Now that you have mentioned that this happens in two different areas as well would lead me to believe that this problem is actually with your phone. In this case the phone will need to be repaired.

To find out what you need to do in order to get this sorted take a look at our Vodafone Repairs Thread. This can be found here.

Thanks

Re: 3G doesnt work but H is fine?

My postcode is irrelavant, as the problem has happened from the west coast to the east coast of Scotland.

Seems like a common problem then, none of my friends on other networks have the same problem so i'm assuming it's a vodafone problem?

Hi Everyone,

@andy1911 - Thanks for coming back to me here.

If this was tested by a Vodafone rep, can I assume that you have tried this in a Vodafone store? If so what was the outcome? If not, then this will be the next step. Vodafone stores have 3G transmitters built into them, so this will rule out any problems with the network if you still struggle to get this working in there.

Thanks

@Razwaz – If this happens everywhere then this is not likely to be a network issue. As you will be using many different cell sites while you travel across the country. If all of these sites where causing an issue then we would potentially have thousands of customers letting us know that they are having problems. At the moment, at least on this thread we have three.

We have specific measures setup to alert us of multiple calls regarding the same subject/problem via our 191 lines and so far we have had no alerts of any such  issues.

This is why it would lead me to believe that your issue is handset or SIM related. With this in mind, we would need you to try your SIM card in another handset and test to see if the problem remains.

Thanks

@jayc1980 - Thanks for coming back to me here. I have just had word from my colleague in our networks team who has sent me over the reports of the site and the traffic it has taken.

The sit seems to be working absolutely fine with both Voice and data connections going through ok. I have however, asked him to take a closer look at 3G and will report back as soon as I hear back from him.

Until then, I’m going to need you to find some way of trying your SIM card in another phone. You’ll need to either use a friends or member of the families phone or by going into a Vodafone store, who’ll then be able to assist.. With you saying that you are using over your Data limit a couple of times this may be a very strange issue with your phone not displaying 3G correctly.

Let me know how you go on though and I’ll do the same for you as soon as I hear back.

Thanks

Wayne

Re: 3G doesnt work but H is fine?

Hi Wayne,

Thanks for the quick response.
I have just been to the vodafone shop in blackpool, they tested my similar in a Nokia that can't do more than 3g and it worked perfectly, they said its nothing to do with similar and looks a problem with the phone itself. Hope that helps.

Re: 3G doesnt work but H is fine?

Just to let you know I am also having this problem, internet works when a H appears but never works when 3G appears, even at full signal strength. I'm sure there are many more people having this problem they just put up with it like I do.

Re: 3G doesnt work but H is fine?

This sounds like s signal authentication problem

H is different then 3g

H is wcdma+ but when 3g is shown it should be wcdma

H only happens when you get a realy strong signal and the arieal has this

How old is your simm card as older simms have problems that can affect this

i carn't see it being a problem with the phone and wcdma+ (H) is used on the same areial

This could be more like Vodafone loosing the authentication when it drops to 3G

Now some more tests is to travel to another area and see if it does the same fault
