Re: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for GALAXY S II!!!

Does anyone know if we will need to wipe the phone for the ICS upgrade?

It's a major release, not a point release, and I'm assuming that the phone will need to be wiped to accept the update.

If that's the case, it won't go down well.

@wintee

I would always recommend a full Factory reset and internal SDcard format before and after any Firmware update!

Back up all your "stuff" including contacts if you don't sync with Gmail.

remove any External Micro SDcard.

open dialer and type *2767*3855# This will Factory reset AND format the internal SDcard, then restarts the phone.

NDJ so are you saying I won't need a computer and kies to update to ICS and that I can do it using my handset over wifi?

Yep if its a Vodafone handset you will get a message on your phone make sure your wifi is on full signal, then follow the link

Carphone wharhouse users when the XEU lot get the update then you can change your CSC to XEU from CPW or wait untill ther roll it out but i have notice that it can take a bit for that to happen

I have seen managers in Carphone shops change the csc to XEU update the phone and then change it back again

Carphone warhouse have only got there own CSC to make the roll out staggered but it never works like that

many if not all change there CSC

Yes XEU (unbranded) should get it before the rest. Mind saying that it has been released for "3". We shall just have to be patient and wait.

Re: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for GALAXY S II!!!

After this I phoned Samsung TechSupport and spoke to a galaxy phone specialist. For the first time I didn't get the standard response which is something like

'Galaxy S2 upgrades will be subject to each network’s own software approvals process'

He said that the software was being released in batches to open market version phone depending on their software version and that by this Friday all open market phones should be able to update via Kies.

I am not desperate to have ICS but I hate not knowing what is going on! The Samsung announcement said ICS would be released during the week commencing 19th March. Tomorrow is the end of the week

Re: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for GALAXY S II!!!

Guys, apparantly the update is via KIES only and you wont be able to do it through OTA.

This article may be of some use - http://crave.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/samsung-galaxy-s2-ics-vodafone-update-still-in-testing-50007423/

Theres no point in checking KIES every second wasting your own time. As soon as the update is ready, Vodafone will advertise on twitter, facebook and here on the e-forum to let you all know so honestly, keep subscribed to their feeds and when the update is out you will get it.

Mate of mine is on 3, the ICS update is abysmal due to the bloatware they have put on it he tells me so in a way, count yourself lucky that we are not on 3 and hopefully Voda are listening to their loyal customers when we say we dont wan't their rubbish on our phones.

Yet again and i keep saying this VODAFONE ARE NOT USING KIES

any one on Vodafone software that plugs there phone in Kies will not recognize the currant software

If Kies does not recognize the currant software it can not update

Vodafone dropped the Kies updating in favor of the OTA option

and when Vodafone want to send it out like they sade they will ask Google to send it

Samsung are having nothing to do with the roll out they only get sent the rom for maintance for customers phones

Oh this is from Samsung.

The only way they can make kies work is to send the 2.3.5 rom to samsung to there servers then send 4.0.3

this is why people are commenting that kies does not recognize the firmware

or Vodafone roll back there firm ware to a firmware that Kies does see

Can Vodafone at least clarify how the update will be sent

OTA like the last

Or a roll back so Kies can see it

Galaxy S2 Cannot Update Via Kies

I recently connected my Samsung Galaxy S2 up to Kies for the first time I was planning on backing up my data ready for the coming soon ICS update. I was met with the message:

"Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies."

I have looked through old firmwares and saw that there was a problem following the OTA 2.3.5 update so I decided to do a factory reset of my phone to try again. After the reset I am still running 2.3.5 and I still have the same issue when connecting to Kies.

My phone is running:

PDA: I9100BUKI3

Phone: I9100BUKI1

CSC: I9100VODKI2

Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100BUKI3-CL604789 root@DELL150 #2

Can anybody assist with this?

Re: Galaxy S2 Cannot Update Via Kies

WOW at last some one has got there

You have VODAFONE firmware

KIES WILL NOT UPDATE VODAFONE BRANDED PHONES SEE ABOVE!!!

VODAFONE ARE UPDATED OTA!!!!

That is OVER THE AIR

You will get a message sent to your phone

so if your phone is like the above then OTA is the only way to update

Unless its unbranded

Mate seriously, chill out. You have repeated yourself enough times and we really don't need you emphasing your posts with large, bold writing. I think the best thing now is for the moderators to maybe close this thread and actually give us an updated post as to 1- Where Vodafone currently are with the update. 2- An ETA (to stop threads like this) and 3- To inform us on how this update will be sent to us be it OTA or KIES or even Carrier Pidgeon.

Re: Galaxy S2 Cannot Update Via Kies

Well may be people need to read the post first

any one on 2.3.4 is on the latest firmware on a XEU or phone bought from Carphone warehouse

Only Vodafone phones bought Direct from Vodafone are able to do OTA

If you want any more answers read back

and no matter how hard you push the eforum you will not get a answer why well they don't no

In fact we find out before they get told

But as in previous page there now getting Bad PR that normally works as the PR department hates that and they seem to be running Vodafone the more external blogs report this then you will find it will happen

But the eforum team do not have the info

Re: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for GALAXY S II!!!

Interestingly. My Galaxy S2 just did some updates in the android market and one of them was My Vodafone.  When I looked at what was updated about it it said Supports ICS.  Surely if they have updated the My Vodafone app for Ice Cream Sandwich then its a sure sign that the ICS update is coming to vodafone very soon
