Re: When will we get ICS on the samsung GII

I honestly think this thread has run its course. All these stupid posts of people asking "when are we getting ics" is getting tiresome. ICS 4.0 isnt released yet nor is there a time frame so just keep checking eforum/kies/ota or wherever you like and stop posting the same message here.

Re: When will we get ICS on the samsung GII

I think most have been put up to it as they have seen the bad press

I would blame Vodafone for locking this

I;m fed up of repeating my self now

Re: When will we get ICS on the samsung GII

I say lock it now. It's boring, tedious and doesn't provide any useful information regarding any of the subject matter. Even the talk about mod ROMs and betas is totally off topic. Why is this thread here again? Oh, that's right, hearsay and conjecture mixed in with a bit of pr from Samsung... Lol

Re: When will we get ICS on the samsung GII

Well if you know it's boring and tedious you don't have to read it...

Personally I don't think it's boring, I quite look forward to NDJ's next rant or tinman and rapturoso going at it.

The nice thing about it is that's it's an open forum, everyone can have an opinion, right or wrong and let off some steam.

Yes we all want the update but there's news all over the internet of battery drain issues, glitchy and buggy software in 4.0.3 and that's probably why it's taking so long to get any news out of Vodafone.

We know Voda are watching this forum (I STILL can't believe they modded me!!! :smileyhappy:) and I'm sure that when they have news we'll have news.

Update now available on 02 can't be far off.

I have ICS update on my ASUS TF101 and would rather that Voda get it right unlike ASUS which iss giving me loads of trouble with impromptue restarts etc.

Re: When will we get ICS on the Samsung GII

Right here we go again lol

Right been on the old dog and bone again !!!

Direct to Samsung my contact is back from his holidays

His words

What a Mess!!!!

Samsung UK has sent a snotty email to Singapore wanting to no what is going on

Now

Carphone warehouse have approved there rom and apparently they were the first, mainly as they use UK testers and its the XEU version. Now Samsung UK received a snotty email from them as to why it has not been rolled out Via Kies yet.

So Carphone users you can and it safe go to there express centers and they will put ICS on lucky you.

No my contact said the XEU version will be out the same time the CPW version is rolled out via KIes (same rom!!)

The UK hunch is there servers must have steam coming out of them, the countries that are getting it first have less networks to worry about Russia have three networks but all use the same rom.

It may be possible that there has been a hick up.

I challenged him on the Vodafone one he said I was wondering when you were going to ask, Now Samsung UK do no you lot are not Happy now they have no control over the OTA but it looks like this might be scrapped as it caused more problems. Plus the size of the rom so there could be Two vodafone roms to add more confusion

1. For all that updated using kies

2. For the ones that updated OTA

After updating both will have the same firmware on

There un sure how the OTA problem will be sorted if it comes via Kies or OTA but the idea is to sort out that every one is the same and can use both methods.

He then dropped the Clanger, There still testing this and messing around with this, but he said its down to them.

Samsung have told them and have been advising them.

so the Fog is clearing

Vodafone are testing this, to fix the mess of the 2.3.5 roll out and to make sure its all sorted

Now as other networks are getting the Hop on Vodafone i acn see them moving faster on this and i can see some form of announcement soon

If Orange customers get this  this would be bad PR for them

But we need Vodafone to get this right, and they know this two, the last thing we want is a roll out of a Naff rom and the only way to fix it would be to send it back to them, and that deff not a good idea

Right that is all ii have found out

So VF customers

STOP ASKING WHEN NO ONE KNOWS YET !!!!!!!!

If what NDJ has said is correct... then I am more than happy to wait for a fully working and tested ROM, rather than deal with a buggy and battery depleting one.

(this is not a race BTW.... the only thing that comes from rushing Quality Control is poor product)

This seems to be every time a race to see who can get it first

then when its out and peopl carn't then we have to pick up the peaces

@tonytango aparantly there is only one app on alled the My vodaphone

They seem to be aiming all the bloat at windows users to kill them off

But untill we see the rom in the flesh

any one got a ladder for Vodafone to climb out of this hole

I mean if they need help they only have to ask ????

Re: When will we get ICS on the Samsung GII

Morning Everyone,

I'm conscious that it's normally me who posts in threads like this and so thought I'd pop on now I've returned from leave.

Regarding Vodafone apparently refusing to comment about the update, we added a statement here on 13th March. The statements we put on the forum are approved by the same people as speak to the press, so this is official confirmation from the company that we'll make it available as soon as possible.

I've edited the statement a little to add subscription instructions at the bottom, for anyone who doesn't want to keep coming back to the forum. You can just subscribe there and you'll get an email alert when there's news.

I've also added a link to our firmware guide- this answers as much as we can of the questions you have around Vodafone branded firmware, device warranties and such.

Regarding the posts which were removed, this is a forum operated under the brand name of a massive UK company, not an independent site. With that in mind, links directly to videos on YouTube, or any other content anywhere else on the web, which contain bad language or other content which could be offensive, aren't appropriate.

I totally get that this was a light hearted post, and carried a sufficient disclaimer, but we still have to be careful. You're more than welcome to say "search for this video on Google but beware of the language or content if you're easily offended", it's just that direct links are accidentally clickable.

I promise we'll come back to you as soon as there's news.

Thanks,

Tom

Re: When will we get ICS on the Samsung GII

Hi Tom,

The problem is that you have not released an update in will over 2 week since you posted that,

customer are getting angry  because you have noy released any information in over 2 weeks and other network eg Three and O2 now have ICS on there phone.

Make us ask the question what are you doing? i know you need to test and make sure it work with your apps but you can never get everything right that why you have updates.

Re: When will we get ICS on the Samsung GII

I am impressed.

I was about to write a message saying that it is kudos to Vodafone for not jumping on the rushed-ICS bandwagon (and yes, I am desperate for my ICS) and then there's Tom's message, putting this in as clear a place as he officially can.

Seriously, this is good.

Re: When will we get ICS on the Samsung GII

In I.T you set an expectation (an ETA, Estimated Time of Arrival) for a release when a problem is escalated and has lots of public attention. It is understood that the date 'may' slip due to unforseen circumstances but it sets a commitment to the software testers/developers and instills confidence in their audience. At Vodafone, it does not seem that has any importance.

Re: When will we get ICS on the Samsung GII

Hi Tom

No offense taken to the modding!

And if you want to watch a very apt video on you tube featuring Eddie Murphy and Ice Cream then by all means look for it on Google. :smileylol:

I think most people on here are just a little frustrated that we don't know whats going on. We appreciate that you are busy, as are most of us, but even a weekly update telling us where you are with progress on the update would be nice.

3 got the jump on everyone but theirs is allegedly filled with bloatware.

O2 released yesterday but don't know enough about it yet.

I'm reading lots on the net about battery drain issues and glitchy software on other versions of 4.0.3. Is this the reason for the delay?

Even if you come back to us and say sorry folks we've tested the software and it's just not ready to be released onto our network for XYZ reasons we'll appreciate and respect you for that, and sometimes even a negative is good PR!
