Re: Android 4.0 update for Samsung Galaxi S2

Hi All,

I withdraw my post above and have asked the admins to remove it, as well as apologising for any offence taken - none was meant.

However, I do get frustrated when the same question is asked over and over...ah well perhaps it is too much to expect people to read fourteen pages in advance.

Re: Android 4.0 update for Samsung Galaxi S2

One of the problems is

The Lack of updated information the fact that Vodafone is not keeping its users up to date.

Not having a date is another yes there is the argument well what if it does not happen on that date well you set a realistic date

The main reason for that is people then have the chance to

update there PC's

clear there phones out and there not rushing the update

The reason people are asking is well the others are not getting answered

Having other Networks beating Vodafone to the Hope is a Major let down

If Vodafone are having problems then tell us

Don't just roll out the update not saying anything

That is how mistakes happen

This is my last post on this thread me and others are keeping tabs on this and will be on standby to help when it does happen .

But they need to update there users with the truth not a cop out eg Testing.

Re: Android 4.0 update for Samsung Galaxi S2

VODAFONE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE TELL US SOMETHING.

Anyway, has out been confirmed officially whether ICS will be rolled out on Vodafone OTA or via Kies? Because I feel like a lemon checking both.

This entire debacle proves VF's customer service is pure pants, and is very bad for their reputation. I hope you're taking note Vodafone, please learn some lessons from this and COMMUNICATE in future. GAGGHH!

Re: Android 4.0 update for Samsung Galaxi S2

Hi mrwalks,

The reason for our current approach is that we've learned from many previous device launches and firmware releases- I know it might not feel like it, but this is the best way for us to approach this.

We've confirmed that the firmware will be available as soon as possible here, and there are also instructions on how to subscribe to a topic so that you don't have to keep checking back if you don't want to. There's also a link in that post that explains our approach to firmware and answers as many questions as we can.

Thanks,

Tom

Android 4.0.3

Posted from Facebook
Why is Android 4.0.3 taking so long to be released? T Mobile, Orange and O2 have managed to release it.... Think this is bad!!! I thought Vodafone were always at the front of the competition.

Re: Android 4.0.3

This question has been answered a billion times mate, it's still under testing so when it's released you don't moan that's it's buggy, that it's draining your battery or that certain apps don't open. If you read the reviews from 3 customers then you should be glad Vodafone are actually taking their time over it.

And T-mobile And Orange do not have the update for GSII

Re: Android 4.0 update for Samsung Galaxi S2

Mrwalks I don't understand how you can call it a lack of service or communication when you have been told that the update info will be given when it's ready when you can subscribe to a post so you get automatic updates when the thread is updated by a mod.

The information is clear, you are just choosing to ignore it.

Mr Walks need some patience. He would be the first to complain if itb was buggy when released. I would much rather wait till its sorted.Anyway theres nothing wrong with the current version. You wouldnt have got the phone if you didnt like the OS

Perhaps something along the lines of what Vodafone AU do on their blog might be a good way to reduce the post count...

The blog is ok, but in fairness to the Mods they just release what they're told they can release.

Having a weekly blog is great but it still generates the same questions that are being asked on this forum, when...

For those of you asking why it's alll taking so long please see the links below.

http://blog.vodafone.com.au/blog/the-android-software-journey-part-1/

http://blog.vodafone.com.au/blog/the-android-software-journey-part-2/

Hope this helps!

Note: this is from the Voadfone Australia website and is for information only, the links there go to Austalian forums etc... and not back to this one.

Re: Android 4.0 update for Samsung Galaxi S2

that was an interesting read. what that says is when vodafone release their software it should be completely bug free as they test the holy hell out of it before they release it.

hands up if anyone has had problems with their updates in the past?

on a serious note it does kida provide some answers to the many people who keep not reading this whole post and say "where is ICS? where is ICS?"

i'm sure i posted on these forums tho about how vodafone au have a weekly update about the progress of firmware............. :smileywink:

as much as the android journey blog tells us what they go thru to release the software what it doesn't do is KEEP THE CONSUMER UPDATED. they even say themselves that they don't release any information until they are satisfied. but does that keep the customers satisfied? unfortunately not.

but it could be worse, we could live in the UK where we don't get all this information that they get on the vodafone.au website.

oh wait.............

Re: Android 4.0 update for Samsung Galaxi S2

Most people aren't interested in reading a blog that still doesn't give them a release date for them software. You could post here a million times asking and pleading for news and Vodafone could tell you everything they know and I can guarantee you'd still moan about it not being good enough. Bottom line is, the update is in testing, you can subscribe to a post here on the forum that will notify you of updates made by mods so just sit sight.

Re: Android 4.0 update for Samsung Galaxi S2

This is my first post on the forum, although I have been following it for a lon time.

I am a software engineer by trade, and I'll add my 2 pence to the whole debacle.

We all want the greatest and latest software for out shiny new smartphones but faced with he choice of bling interface and broken functionality, I will always go with functionality.

I am quite happy that Vodafone are taking their time over this and give it the attention it needs as it could end up with egg in their face and wouldn't really look so smart when we all flood the forums and slate them for buggy phones and all kinds of problems.

ICS is a whole new kind of proposition, even for our shiny new SGS2. Have a look at the post by Sony on The Register, where it is asking its customers to decide whether to go for ICS or stick with Gingerbread. Maybe Vodafone is faced with the same problems as well. I would guess that 4.0.4 might be a better release candidate than 4.0.3 as it  provides a few bugfixes and performance improvements over 4.0.3

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/04/02/sony_ics/

I'll be more than happy when Vodafone do release the software and has very few bugs and performs as it should on our phones and at least the experience is as good as the Gingerbread version and not worse.

That my 2c, and I am sure that people will probably slate me or keep posting: Where is ICS for my SGS2?

Re: Android 4.0 update for Samsung Galaxy S2

Right this is what I found out today and they are trying to sort this

ICS is a Big update and many need it as 2.3.5 was a mess.

The other trouble is and the main problem that there trying to sort

Some updated on Kies they can only update on kies as it does not offer a OTA unless the phone is rolled back

the ones that are on OTA can only now use OTA

Now Vodafone were the only ones to use OTA on the S2  this made the update the same as other android users, and to me is heaps better then kies

this was prooved as there was not any problems and happend very well the only problem was the rom

The whole roll out is part of the problem but they are working on a fix

Now at the moment there are a phew ways being put forward

One customers send there phones in to Vodafone Ummmm Nope

thankfully that has been ruled out

What has come forward is a OTA roll out but 2.3.5 again this time making it so kies works

The Idea seems to be that Vodafone want to give the choice

OTA will stay well i hop it does much safer way of updating

Samsung are now invoved mainly as its got to that stage were they need to be

Google are as well as there needed to help out

So they are on with it chaps !!!!

this is not a easy fix

I'm sure on the thread they will post on what to do

Morning Everyone,

Lots of interesting points of view here, but can we try and keep it on topic please?

If anybody has any concern about any of the content of the forum, whether it's causing you offense or is difficult to understand, please contact me at tom.rushton@vodafone.com, or report the post using the report procedure. It's better that we talk about things offline rather than publicly, as I'd never want to cause anybody any offense on this site, or not protect them from it.

I'm removing all of these posts shortly, please let's not get into this same discussion again, this thread is about a pending firmware release for Galaxy S2.

Thanks,

Tom

[EDIT] I've now removed the posts, so anyone confused by my message who thinks I've lost the plot, please do not worry :smileyhappy: TR

So how many of you guys have Backed Up your phones in anticipation?

Now could be a good time, as when the update arrives it's easy to get carried away and lose those important photo's, music or game saves!

I find the best way is to put the Phone into "Mass Storage" mode. This acts like a USB memory stick.

I then copy the whole of my internal storage over to a Folder on my PC.

Once you have updated simply copy back, download the Apps and you are back where you were! Game saves and all.

Update Routine:

  1. Backup Phone
  2. Factory Reset + Format internal Storage by typing *2767*3855#
  3. Update following instructions carefully!
  4. Factory Reset + Format internal Storage by typing *2767*3855#
  5. Copy files back to internal storage.
  6. Download Apps
  7. Enjoy ICS

I reckon vodafone customer might not need to backup as there will not be any ICS release

Yes they are bring ICS out

If Vodafone didn't there would ba a massive out cry, and the press would be all over it, and Samsung would not be impresseed

But it is coming as i stated in my previous posts, and if Vodafone had no plans Tom from Vodafone would of told us by now.

The rom is ready there working with Google and Samsung in rolling this out

OTA People who updated may get a mini update sent to there phones.

Now this will not be ICS but to fix the Kies problem, were kies do not see the firmware

Now the plan seems to be that its rolled out on both kies and OTA  again, If not just Kies

Now there is one thing to point out that XEU users still have not got ICS yet so your not on your own, Vodafone users .

It looks like there wanting to get Networks sorted first
