If you have CPW branded software you'll have to wait for the general release of ICS
Effectively, and I think i'm right but if not someone will surely set me straight, your phone is Sim Free

Sometimes the simple answer is overlooked because it's technology that's complicated!

Sabre, I don't really understand why you can moan. A hell of a lot of people were moaning that VF hadn't updated us at all in terms of dates for ICS being made available, they then did this on advice of Samsung (who believe it or not make this phone) so everyone is happy again. Then Samsung put back the release, and again VF update us so we are not all wondering why there has been no update.
What exactly have VF done wrong, as they did say the original dates may be subject to change.

@JSK73
Valid point. But surely logic would dictate that they seek Samsung's approval prior to announcing even a provisional date?
It's only a day (so far), so it's no big deal. It's just another chapter in the ongoing saga that is the disasterous rollout of ICS to the S2.

@daveyc2k2
Who's complaining? I was merely pointing out that things should be squared away before telling people that you intend to release. It's called "dotting the I's and crossing the T's". Gaining approval from a manfacturer for an impending software release should be standard in the development lifecyle. All VF needed to do was install their bloatware to the ICS ROM that Samsung provided, test it, and hand it back to Samsung to gain approval. Once approval had been given, then announce the proposed release day and delivery methods.
Common sense, or is it just me?

We've dealt with this situation many times on the forum, and this is why we tend to say nothing until there's definite news, as either way, someone always seems to end up unhappy.
I'm really sorry we've disappointed you, but we've done absolutely everything we could to provide as much information as possible at all stages. Next time there's an update due, I'll look to provide options on how we provide information.
Thanks,
Tom

JSK73 is absolutely correct...
Kies works by checking the phones CSC (sales code) and also the firmware version. In this case the CSC would be CPW so the Vodafone Firmware which has a Sales code of VOD would not match.
You will need to contact Carphone Warehouse for details of their release.

I appreciate the position that VF are in, I really do. It's a side effect of a fragmented platform that there are so many parties involved in the software development and release. While I appreciate the situation, I still don't agree with it. Google, Samsung and Vodafone should all have the common interest to reduce fragmentation. In all honesty, outside of company practices, does Vodafone really need to add applications etc to an operating system that has already been developed and tested by two previous businesses? Make all of the Vodafone apps available in the Play Store for customers to download retrospectively. There really is no need for "differentiation" by bloating the OS.
We all know that we're Vodafone customers, it says so on my monthly bill. If I wanted to use a plethora of Vodafone developed apps, I could download them from the Play Store. Either way, I still pay my money to Vodafone.
Look, at the end of the day, it's only a phone software update. It's not world-changing. It's just very frustrating for the people that really matter, the customers.

To find your sales code follow these instructions carefully
In the phones dialer type: *#06# This will display your IMEI number. Carefully copy it down.
Clear the dialer screen
Now type: *#272*xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx#* replace the X's with your IMEI number.
This will display your CSC (Sales Code)
Press cancel to exit do not press OK or apply as it will factory reset your phone.

Hi
If you connect your phone via Kies, it will show the Latest Firmware Version the CSC code is the end of this string and will be (VOD) if it is a Vodafone phone.
Hope this helps

I never thought I'd see the day when someone would curse having an unbranded phone as opposed to a VF one... If anyone needs an example of how poor the ICS S2 rollout has been, here it is... ![]()
