Re: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for GALAXY S II!!!

I am so gutted... I thought I'd be able to get the update today, but I didn't realise there was a difference between the phone I got from Carphone Warehouse on the Vodafone network, and the ones you get direct from Vodafone.

I know now that for the XEU version wont be coming out until all the network operators have released theirs (I assume that's for service provider compatibility?) but does anybody know which network will be the last to release it? Just so I can get a ballpark estimate of when the official XEU ICS is expected to be released?

Also, does anybody know of a good guide to flashing the vodafone firmware? I've read a bit about odin, but a step by step guide would be ideal so I don't mess it up. also what would the ups/downsides of this be? Like, will it void my insurance? possible instability? etc etc etc.  and I imagine that flashing the vodafone firmware will lock my phone to Vodafone only?

Re: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for GALAXY S II!!!

Have done the update but now get an error trying to restore the kies backup i took before the update.

Kies reports an error due to an interruption and does not complete i have tried this twice now, has anyone else had this problem?

Right Just to clear a lot up

There two Updates out

any one that updated Via Kies to 2.3.5 can update today using Kies

If you Updated Via OTA then you will get a message to your device as Tom said this should start on Tuesday

XEU users your rom will be out in the next phew weeks and rolled out via Kies there is no mad rush and do not be tempted in attempting to put another rom on to keep up with whats going on

You may Void your warrenty with your retailer

Carphone warehouse users check your email as there sending you information on what's  happerning

Phones 4u customers contact them and they will advice you

But all XEU customers are next.

If you cast your eyes down the message board you will find a flashing guide by thesoupdragon..

Upside? Flashing this way you can put on anything that is available for your phone.

Downside? Your warranty is gone..

Instability? What is considered stable? Any problems I come across I just flash again.

If you flash to Voda that way, you can just as easily flash away again.

Wow, flashing it was way easier than I expected it to be. Gotta' thank thesoupdragon, and you Jimc130 for directing it to me.

Now that I've flashed to the current Vodafone ICS firmware, will I get all future updates, or will I need to flash it every time?
If network phones get them first, I'd rather stick with the vodafone firmware.

Re: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for GALAXY S II!!!

Hi,

I'm a little confused. I have an unbranded S2 and it's running 2.3.4, and XEU.

I've plugged it into Kies, but there is no update available. Will I get the OTA one on Tuesday? Or will I have to wait longer?

Re: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for GALAXY S II!!!

SimonSebbage. I had that problem too. turns out that if you have an unbranded phone that you bought from Carphone Warehouse, or Phones4U, you can't get the update via Kies.

If you wanted to, you could flash it onto there. just follow thesoupdragons flashing guide.

And download the vodafone UK firmware from here.

Hi Reave,

I looked at that. But the Odin3 software has been removed so I can't download it.

Anyone know of a reliable place I can get it?

Re: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for GALAXY S II!!!

@SimonSebbage. Yes you will have to wait longer. XEU and CPW customers will be the last to get the update after each network has had a chance for it's users to check for any network specific bugs. Considering the small amount of networks available and networks on piggyback, like giffgaff on o2, this shouldn't take too long but expect to wait at least a few weeks after this VODAFONE release.

@Reave. CPW phones do actually get the update via Samsung Kies just like the 2.3.4 update. These however were not available OTA and will also not be available OTA for ICS either.

This should also be true for Phones4U as I believe Samsung have similar contractual obligations to them as they do to The Carphone Warehouse.

@SimonSebbage. It would be wise to wait as using Odin to flash your phone invalidates the Samsung 2 year warranty. Should anything go wrong with your phone after doing this, within the warranty period, Samsung will charge extortionate amounts or simply refuse to repair the phone.

Ics update help???

hi, I've plugged my gs2 into computer via Samsung kies to download ics and apparently I'm running the latest firmware (gingerbRead) I then plugged my partners gs2 in and upgrade available straight away, So rang Vodafone they couldn't find the problem and give me a number to ring Samsung, This was about 5:30pm today and the response I got was as if I was stupid saying ICS is not available on Vodafone yet it will be at least a couple of days yet, So I said well its on the Internet that people have successfully downloaded ics on galaxy s2 and as we speak my partners phone is downloading ics 4.3 via kies. The response was I work for Samsung Im sure I would know this can't be possible! So after saying forget it and my partners phone successfully downloading ics I'm confused (jealous) and not happy bout the service making out I'm stupid by Samsung! Can any one help I pay over £100 pound a month contract and feel left out any clues or ideas would be Greatly appreciated, Maybe should go back with 02? Thanks, Simon
