Re: Phone not working at all now.

I have now used the ics update for a day and i am loving it. battery peformance is now better although i have been playing around with it since the update.

only thing i wish they kept from gingerbread is the black background of youtube. Hate the new white background.

I like everything else, contacts, g+ integration and editing, the new swipe, everything everything else is better.

oh yes and i uninstalled the vodafone bloatware.

@jimc130. The cloud of doom dissipated as soon as I was given the correct information. Also, now that there is a way to reset the counter, I don't care much for the warnings about flashing with Odin that I found on a multitude of web sites and was given by people, who I believed, knew what they were talking about. Shame on them.

Unfortunately I can't find any links to Triangle Away or an in depth guide to installing an ICS based mod ROM. It's like finding a needle in a haystack and XDA Developers isn't organised in such a way that helps. I just want to flash away now it really doesn't matter any more!

Re: Phone not working at all now.

Ok, not being rude, but have you even checked? Really?

First page, stickied at the top of "Galaxy S II General" is a thread titled "ROLL UP STICKY THREAD!!!****You can find all stickies here****"

I suggest looking in there for guides

Re: Phone not working at all now.

I didn't look in that section, I was looking in Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100 hence the reason I probably wasn't finding anything useful. Thanks for the heads-up :-)

Re: Phone not working at all now.

You dont care about warnings given by people? Those people are right to give warnings as you can soft or hard brick your device - just as you can with kies.

The big warning I was talking about was for Triangle Away, which is on the XDA thread, and I bet it is on the app as well.

As for the XDA thing..you aint looking hard enough, its all there. Try RootzWiki as well

Re: Phone not working at all now.

@jimc130. I wasn't referring to the warnings you mention, I was referring to the incorrect warnings given to me previously about flashing using Odin invalidating the warranty. However, I'd rather have a soft-bricked recoverable device that is still in warranty than a void warranty with no replacement cover.

Re: Phone not working at all now.

Well, it depends what you flash with Odin - you can easily invalidate your warranty.

CM9 thread. Practically first line. "Your warranty is now void"

Good luck.

Re: Phone not working at all now.

Thanks for the replies on the last page, looks like I'll wait till Tuesday for the OTA update then.

p.s. is it just me or is this the slowest website on the planet? takes forever to load pages.

Re: Phone not working at all now.

Did the update last night, was so chuffed that it went so smooth, took most of last night downloading all my apps again and stuff. Was rather therapeutic and enjoyable cos I could mess with my phone with a valid reason without the missus shouting at me. Then after all this has settled down I can't see any difference in gingerbread and ics. The phone does nothing different as it's just as fast and awesome as it was before. So if your desperate to install ics like I was, don't worry too much as nothing much changes apart from the about phone saying android 4.0.3. Sorry for being honest.

Re: Phone not working at all now.

Hi Guys,

Thank you all for your comments on this thread.

As each of you have resolved most of the issues there isn’t much more I can say other than thank you.

@ fadgadget, unfortunately SkyGo isn’t supported for ICS as of yet however I’m sure that Sky and their app developers will have this up and running soon as more handsets are having the update rolled out.

I don't know if this is with every phone but in settings>privacy and it goes it can back up all application data and wifi settings.

Will it work when I factory reset?

Re: Phone Not Working

thesoupdragon & Vampfy

Hi,

Having tried all 6 USB sockets on my PC with no success, I went downstairs today and tried on another PC....success!!!!!

Managed to put Gingerbread back on with Odin, (Kies said my phone was not able to update to ICS with Kies?), so went back to Odin and successfully updated to ICS.

Will a USB Jig reset my counter back to zero for me still? Counter still says 1 at the moment.

Thanks so much for your help with this,I am extremely grateful.

Cheers!!  :smileyhappy:

theres an app on xda called triangle away if you dont want a jig, personally i would get a jig so you can get into download mode should the need arise in the future. i have one sat in the box just in case. £1.75 inc P&P off ebay form a UK seller.

Re: confused

@Lavezzi

No it won't work as the settings are effectively stored on your phone, which you then wipe with a factory re-set.

Have a look round for backup programmes, I did mine on Kies and it didn't work :smileyembarrassed: but fortunately I had all my numbers etc... backed up on Google.

Re: confused

probably another dumb question but here goes! it hat been recommended to do a factory reset before upgrading to ICS and TSD posted the code. does using the factory data reset function in settings/privacy do the same thing or is that different? if its better to use the code can someone post it again?

also it's been suggested to do a factory reset after upgrading. but won't that just undo the upgrade and put me back where I started?
