Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for GALAXY S II!!!

Samsung offers Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for GALAXY S II

We're thrilled to announce that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be served to GALAXY S II users in the European countries including Poland, Hungary and Sweden, as well as Korea today, and gradually roll out to other markets.

ICS for GALAXY Note, GALAXY S II LTE, GALAXY Tab 8.9 and 10.1 will follow soon.

In addition, we'll also offer Android 2.3 Gingerbread firmware upgrades for GALAXY S, GALAXY Tab 7", GALAXY S Plus, GALAXY S SCL (Super Clear LCD) and GALAXY W from end March. The firmware upgrades for GALAXY S, for example, include Facebook Unlock, Snapshot, Photo Editor, and others.

The availability and scheduling of the software update and specific models upgradeable to Android 4.0 will vary by market and wireless carriers' requirements.

Ice Cream Sandwich on Galaxy s2?

Hey guys, what do you think?  Will we see ICS on Galaxy s2?  Do you think Vodafone will roll it out as soon as it can, it does not have to update their 360 app as this is dissapearing! Thank god!!

Google is claiming that the Nexus S will get ICS and that they don't see why all Gingerbread devices (GSII, etc) won't get it as well.

It's not so much Vodafone but more Samsung in terms of how long it'll take to see it on the GSII.  It's not running stock android so Samsung would have to update their TouchWiz skin to handle ICS.

Re: Ice Cream Sandwich on Galaxy s2?

I know, hopefully it wont be too long for Samsung tho, as they would have had access to the SDK for ICS having made the Prime!  So they should have already started work on it, would be nice if they could officially come out and state what devices will get ICS!

Re: Ice Cream Sandwich on Galaxy s2?

Samsung 2.3.5 rom  steals a few colors from ICS so I am sure the SGS2 will get it.

But I doubt they will release it before SGS3 is launched so we might be looking atleast 3 months for the leaked ones and on vodafone might be longer as Vodafone will be selling the Nexus I doubt they will be in a hurry to update phones to ICS

Re: Ice Cream Sandwich on Galaxy s2?

I think it would be a long time before anyone got ICS as much as it would be great it seems these days other phones are released and other are left behind without a thought of an update.

ICS Update on 19th march confirmed by Samsung

Samsung has confirmed to TechRadar that the Galaxy S2 Ice Cream Sandwich update UK release date will be 19 March.

The news follows samsungs tweet  about the new Android 4.0 software landing in Korea and some parts of Europe:

"ICS for Galaxy S2 will be available today in Europe, including Poland, Hungary, Sweden and Korea & gradually roll out to other markets."

Korea is in Europe?

However, it seems the UK won't have to wait too much longer to get the same treatment.

Samsung told us: "Samsung UK can confirm that the roll out of Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) on Galaxy S II will be available from week commencing 19 March, however the availability of software upgrades in the UK will be dependent upon each network's own software approvals process

OK Vodafone give us a date please

Yep this Update is for Open Europe Phones eg Carphone warehouse / Phones 4 U and others

Phone bought via networks then its up to the Networks

Vodafone customers Update Via OTA  = Over .The .Air

XEU (Open Europe) Update via Kies for now make sure that is uptodate as well

Re: Ice Cream Sandwich on Galaxy s2?

I believe Vodafone is currently running customised ICS on galaxy nexus.  So porting that code to galaxy s 2 should not take years.

Vodafone updates has really been pain.  My Galaxy s2 shows that there is update available ( guess 2.3.6 something)  and  it downloads starts installing and then stop at 14% and reboot.

I would like to ask a simple question to user that how many of users really use any of the Vodafone installed app ?

I personally don’t see any update coming soon .

Re: Ice Cream Sandwich on Galaxy s2?

Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich was released on  31 January 2012 almost 42 days ago and I believe its usually available for preview for partners etc so they can start enveloping it.   I have  Galaxy s2 and galaxy 10.1 tab .  I hope vodafone will release "

Customised"  vesrion  (with apps no body uses) ASAP .

Yes your right but that goes to the Manufactures then they mess around with it and hold it back as long as they can then they send it to networks who then Bloat it up and mess it around but before that people with Open network phone get the update

There is no reason why vodafone can not realse the update at the same time

In a word No

They did bring a My Vodafone app that sounded good and had a data manager on but as that was allways out of date

On previous phones there apps have not worked and they removed them

What tends to come on the phones these days come in two catagorys

Bloatware and Junkware

Bloatware are apps that Networks put on

Hopfully they have learnt there lesson as some phones are alot lighter now

Junkware

these are trail games can not be removed

Now Vodafone have a policy of testing Firmware to make sure it is compatable and to improve our experiance

The testing has ????

And improve bit  well in the past putting Bloatware on and Junkware did not inprove any thing mad it Worce

Most apps were centred around Vodafone making more money out of use

There Apps store was a flop as Android market did the same apps for cheaper

Samse with the Music store a track would cost 30p on the Apple store  then and on Vodafone it was £1

so They have not got off to a good start

They have even Ditched the Vodafone 360 which on none smart phones was fine and worked

Vodafone like spending shed loads of money listerning to PR people and not Listerning to there customer

Lets Hope things Improve and the listern to the right People US!!!!!! The Customers

They were working on some apps with Google Market for Vodafone customers that has now stopped

Most don't mind apps that work and ar of use

The Google idea was Good

Now on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus there is just one app and even that can be removed called my Vodafone

Now other phones may Varry

The Sony ones you can remove the Junk and Bloat

It boild down to Choice and apps that work and are of use to the Customers
