Re: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for GALAXY S II!!!

@Rapturoso I don't exactly know to be honest, it was more of an assumption on my part. I got my phone from Phones4U, and there was no update available via Kies or OTA.

@JimC130 Yeah, it's pretty awesome so far. I'm just in the process of restoring all my contacts, pictures, music and videos at the moment. as soon as all that's done I'll have a proper play around with it. I love the face unlock though. that's about all I've looked at so far.

Yea thanks especially to soupdragon, NorthernDJ for the advice. I managed to get everything back except for some settings (most likely a screwed up Backup) :smileyhappy:

Now back to playing with my new toy :smileywink:

@mindiawl. What do you mean by officially? Did you use OTA or Kies? Odin is not official as you may well know. I'm not about to advise anyone to use Odin to essentially null and void the remaining 16 or so months people still have on their Samsung warranty.

Re: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for GALAXY S II!!!

Just so everyone knows all settings will have to be re entered as the update has wiped them all off. Also abit annoyed that all my game saves have been wiped even though I did a full backup and restore.

Re: ICS update stalled...help?

@rico1990, i got the same thing, so i reset the phone and kies then it worked fine.

I then could not restore my settings etc using the kies backup i had made. I suggest you make multiple backups.

i didn't so can't be sure if its my backup that is corrupt

Re: ICS update stalled...help?

@Rico

2-3 hours is definitely not right.

My update took about 10 minutes on my home connection.

Has your PC already downloaded 2 pieces of software from Samsung?

What's your internet connection, at this time of night some ISP's strangle the connection and that can affect your download.

Other than that maybe Soup or NDJ can help you

Battery life is well and truly crapola after the ICS update.... I am not impressed!

Phone was fully charged up after the update and in less than 3 hours I am already down to below 60%

I used to be able to go for a couple of days at least before getting anywhere near 60%

And before anybody say's anything yes I did follow the correct procedure for the upgrade - factory re-set, upgrade, factory re-set  etc. etc.yada yada yada....

Seriously not impressed and I hope to God that Samsung release a fix for this issue PDQ!!

woppy you never got 3 days before getting to 60% unless your phone was off. 60% in 3 hours makes sens to me as thats normal.

Re: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for GALAXY S II!!!

How do you update using Kies? I've opened the app & connected the phone to my pc using the web address it gives me, but I see no option on the screen to 'update / check firmware'.

I haven't got Kies installed on my laptop or any other 3rd party software, just using the phones app via my homes wireless connection.

PS: Seems folk are reporting bugs so far.. If it's not broke, don't fix it:smileyhappy:.

Fella please don't tell me what I did or did not get OK

You have no idea about my phone set up and usage

Also I never said 3 days, I said at least a couple, meaning 2

And before you, or anyone else, say anything yes I could easily get 2 days out of my battery before it got to 60%

If you are hitting 60% after just 3 hours on your phone then I suggest you have it set up wrong or have a pile of battery eating crapola installed on it.

This was reported on O2 too.

Let the battery fully discharge then do a full charge.

This way I THINK the ICS optimises the battery

Re: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for GALAXY S II!!!

@JSK73

yes it downloaded compents for firmware update something like that..a and then this comes up.

and yeah it did take several tries to download it..because my internet is awful...

thank you for the reply though =]

@Daztw
Right i will try that and see what happens... luckily it's a new phone so didn't need to back up much and im really paranoid so all my contacts, photo's, video's, apps etc... all backed up in at least in 3 places..bit extreme but it's a habit...

Re: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for GALAXY S II!!!

Exactly..run it down, charge it up, just let the firmware settle down for a few days, you should find that battery usage will be fine.

Re: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for GALAXY S II!!!

Evening guru's, I've connected to Kies and I'm told 'This version of the device cannot be updated' - what does this mean?

My S2 is UK Vodafone contract, running 2.3,5  and its the BUKJ3 build.

It's not been rooted, unlocked or had any custom firmware near it - I'd have thought my upgrade would have been straightforward?

Any advice welcome.
