Re: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for GALAXY S II!!!

The changelog I got for the last update was:

-Supports Ice Cream Sandwich
-Lets you know when you can upgrade
-Provides Pay as you go customers with freebie usage information

There have been several bug fixes, including issues with Wi-Fi connections.

*Please note that for a couple of days after you update the app it may take longer than usual for usage details to refresh.

*Please note that beyond 20 March 2012 old versions of the My Vodafone app will no longer work

If yours is different to this let me know, as there hasnt been an update to mine since then. Thanks.

Just a couple of points N-DJ

"any one on Vodafone software that plugs there phone in Kies will not recognize the currant software" thast's incorrect, kies recognises 2.3.5, mine's plugged in now and recognises the version.

"Vodafone dropped the Kies updating in favor of the OTA option" the last update was on Kies and OTA, they had more problems with OTA than Kies.

IMHO I reckon that if people updated to 2.3.5 OTA then Kies maybe won't recognise your phone and that ICS will be OTA, but if you updated via Kies then you will be able to do so through Kies again.

Hopefully we'll find out which way Vodafone will want us to do it when the upgrade comes out, until then we're all in the dark...

Sometimes the simple answer is overlooked because it's technology that's complicated!

I had not herd it was rolled out on kies as well ???

There was to much going on the testing of the OTA , and there seem to be customers on 2.3.3 that could not do any

If kies did do a update the technical its should again

But People that did do OTA are the ones were Kies thinks its a custom rom and flags up saying to use another software

So that would mean there two roms out there

One that was rolled out Via OTA

and One Via Kies

But why would Vodafone roll two out and why would one cancel the other out

I must admit having both ways is a good idea but this would involve two systems.

Google look after the OTA and Samsung look after Kies

The only way to figure this out would be to roll a S2 back to 2.3.3 and see if Kies offers the update or OTA

Now if your right not saying your not

why is kies not seeing other people phones ???

If the roms are the same Kies should see that the roms are identical  but its not

Now vodafone have brought in the past to slightly differant roms out on other phone's

But trust Vodafone to make a pigs ear of updating a perfectly good phone

Your assuming that it is running as designed. Easier explanation is its simply broken for some people.

I don't know what all the fuss is about. There are absolutely no network services which require a branded phone. How do you think phones bought off contract work flawlessly with the network? Just get your phone updated manually with minimum fuss. CSC switched to XEU, flashed XEU ICS, switched CSC back. Job done, no crashes, no invalid guarantee or warranty, no rooting, no "modifications from stock". Do yourselves a favour and download the European pack and flash it yourselves. Seriously. :-\

Oh, it's official. Who cares about branding and bloatware? There's nothing useful in any network's OS tweaking, Vodafone is no exception.

Re: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for GALAXY S II!!!

As soon as you flash your phone it counts as a custom rom, your custom rom counter reads 1, therefore invalidated warranty.

What planet are you on? CPW did this for me yesterday and the ROM counter is still at 0 and still under guarantee. Please read my post properly before commenting.

Re: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for GALAXY S II!!!

ffs i DID read your post properly. If CPW did it for you then YOU didnt do it. Your provider or an agent of your provider did. If YOU did it, not CPW or someone like that my warranty would be invalidinated. Please post complete information in the first place.

Re: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for GALAXY S II!!!

There's no need to swear at me! CPW used the same tools and files that I would have used if it were not for the fact that I was passing by in town yesterday. Before I visited CPW I was in Starbucks, where I downloaded the flasher, which CPW used on my phone and the official multi-European pack, which CPW also used on my phone. I think the only difference was most likely the CSC switching tool but as we all well know, simply switching the CSC does not and will never flag a custom ROM on the counter.

So this leaves only two chances for the ROM counter to increment, the use of the flashing software or the use of the European pack, which I've already stated are identical. This now leaves only one outcome. If I were to flash at home with the same flashing tools and images at CPW's disposal then I would still have a phone with a ROM counter of 0.

Correct me if I'm wrong but using the same tools should always bear the same outcome no matter who uses them?

Re: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for GALAXY S II!!!

If you flashed this at home, without CPW, you would see a yellow triangle on your phone during startup, this is because your phone has detected a custom rom flash. It doesnt matter if it is an official build or not, it has been done outwith the official software. Your tech man most likely had official software to reset the counter.

Any post, thread or guide to flash your phone will show that even official builds will leave that nasty little yellow triangle on startup.

Some people claim they can, and as i have not tried these methods im not going to say one way or the other. They all carry a disclaimer saying that they are not responsible if you brick your phone while trying!

Re: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for GALAXY S II!!!

I have the official software. As I said before, I don't see what all the fuss is about. No yellow triangle for my friend either and he has a 3 branded phone. We got that yuk off his phone this morning and gave him ICS without all the crap 3 wanted him to have. He's a happy bunny now. No custom ROM increment. No yellow triangle.

Two important points in that article, 1 the possibility of bricking your phone, remember that although Odin is a neat piece of software its third party and use of such will invalidate warranty. Although the software is official it was flashed in an unofficial method. Try going into a vodafone store and see if they will honour the warranty once they see ICS on your phone.

2 to set the phone in download mode a BIG warning states that custom roms or flashing in this method will invalidate warranty.

Lucky I don't use any third party software then I suppose. I don't see the relevance or your point, unless of course, your post is aimed at someone other than me who is using unofficial means to flash the official ROMs.

Neither. I used the same service tools that CPW used to flash mine yesterday.
