DISAPPEARING EMAILS

I have just upgraded to a Galaxy 2 and I must say I am well impressed, except for a problem with my emails !!

I have set up my email address and password no problem and I know this is alright because I get the email notification come up but when I click to read the email it stays on the screen for about a second then deletes itself. I cannot find an auto delete setting but it must be something like that that I have not set up correctly.

Any help will be much appreciated as it is driving me mad trying to speed read my emails !

Re: DISAPPEARING EMAILS

Hi SewSmart

Welcome to the eForum

Can you give us some more information please!

We don't need your email address!

But could you tell us what email provider you use?

What email App are you using?

I'm sure we can get you the correct settings... :smileyhappy:

Re: DISAPPEARING EMAILS

Hi thanks for the time in replying.

My email proviser is Virgin.net and I am using the email app supplied with the phone NOT the G.Mail app which is also shown on the phone.

As I say the main email configuration must be ok as I am getting notification of new emails, but when I click on the notification it takes me to the email inbox and then the message disapears.

Just had a thought...

Are these emails ones you have already opened on a PC...?

Or are they New Unopened mail?

Re: DISAPPEARING EMAILS

They are new un opened emails however most of the time I do have my email account open on the P.C here if I am in the office, and they delete even before they are opened on the P.C.

my previous Nokia used to show the emails on both devices at the same time and they could be actioned from both devices.

Re: DISAPPEARING EMAILS

Then that sounds as if you should have the email setup using iMap settings!

Look HERE for the settings.

Re: DISAPPEARING EMAILS

Thanks for the link mate and I have set the phone with the settings shown and it is still deleting the emails within seconds of them coming in, as I say the settings must be right for the emails to reach the phone in the first place.

my old phone used to show me all the emails I had in my inbox on the P.C whether read or unread, I guess this should do the same !!

Re: DISAPPEARING EMAILS

@SewSmart

Lets look at this from another angle...:smileyhappy:

You said that your PC is logged into your email most of the time, so it may be the email client you are using has a setting that is interfering with the mobile settings.

Do you use Webmail or an email program like Outlook?

Thanks for your patience with this... We have to track down the culprit... :smileywink:

Re: DISAPPEARING EMAILS

Ok, I have got it sorted after many hours of frustration, For some reason when I was entering the IMAP settings the phone was automtically changing the IMAP login from IMAP4.VIRGIN.NET  back to plain IMAP.VIRGIN.NET.

I eventually realised what the phone was doing and restored the factory settings and started the whole process again and it worked straight away.

Thanks very much for all your advice.

Re: DISAPPEARING EMAILS

Hi I am hoping you can help me with disappearing emails from my Galaxy S2. I got the phone 5 days ago and its driving me MAD!! Have set up me email account (@virginmedia.com) and I have exactly the same problem as SewStart - My phone alerts me that I;ve received an email but before I can open it and read it, it's disappeared!  I've been onto Vodafone several times and also into the shop but they are unable to advise me why it's happening.  I;ve also contacted Virgin and they cannot say what the problem is. I also have the account set up in Outlook if that makes any difference (Had a BB Bold before and it all worked fine) PLEASE HELP!

Re: DISAPPEARING EMAILS

Ok lets have a look

You need to send some test messages here from say gmail to your Virginmedia account

Now is outlook up and running on your pc the same time as your phone ?

What email app are you useing to recive them  ?

Now if your phone is saying there is a email then it has left your Virginmedia account inbox, Now if it hits your phone then it should be there

Is it every email that has gone ?

Now you can set Gmail to do this, Yes i no its a strange way but you never loose a email via the phone unless you delete it

gmail pulls the email in from Virginmedia and your phone will just view it

Some testing may be needed here

@jACKIE2010

I use iMap and email is delivered to my PC and to my Phone. If I open it on my phone it shows as opened on my PC.

If I delete an email on my phone it goes into the imap Trash folder, so you can recover it on your PC.

HOW TO USE IMAP IN VIRGINMEDIA MAIL

Open Virgin email and click on settings icon (Cog Wheel icon on right of page)

it may be imap4.virginmedia.com

Re: DISAPPEARING EMAILS

Hi

I have the same problem on my new Samsung Galaxy S2. I am with Sky for my emails?  They appear then disappear before I can read them. Should I also just run a factory reset and start again?

Re: DISAPPEARING EMAILS

Hi catboys

I will assume 2 things, 1, you are using pop mail server and 2 you had already opened the emails on a PC.

The pop server only enables an email to be opened once. Therefore if you have read the email on a PC it will be recieved by the phone then immediately removed because of being previously opened.

Enable POP3/IMAP on your Sky Email Account

Log into your Sky Email account:

  • Click Mail Settings at the top of any Sky Email page
  • Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab in the orange Mail settings box
  • Depending on the protocol you have decided upon, select either Enable POP or Enable IMAP
  • Click Save Changes

If you see a Google confirmation or notification page after saving your changes, don't attempt to log in to Gmail. Close your browser, go to www.sky.com and click the email icon to sign in again. Any changes you’ve made to your account should have been applied.

Incoming settings:

  • imap.tools.sky.com
  • Use SSL: ON
  • Authentication: password
  • Server Port: 993

Outgoing settings:

  • smtp.tools.sky.com
  • Use SSL: ON
  • Authentication: password
  • Server Port: 99

I don't have access to a sky account so can't confirm the settings I'm afraid.

Re: DISAPPEARING EMAILS

Thanks for that but unfortunately it makes no difference. I have deleted the my premium email and set it up again. I know there are unopened new emails there. i get a list of emails but as soon as I open one they all disappear from the phone. this driving me mad because I travel all over the place and need to be able to access my personal emails. I tried deleting outlook on my computer in case there was a conflict as well. Help!

Re: DISAPPEARING EMAILS

@catboys

Can you confirm that you have changed the settings on your PC to imap?

You may also have a setting that marks an email as "Read" after X amount of time, this would also need to be turned off on your PC.

Re: DISAPPEARING EMAILS

Imap is set to enabled, pop is disabled and I don't see anything that would mark them as "read" after a certain amount of time.

Re: DISAPPEARING EMAILS

@catboys

Apparently this is a known issue with Sky Email, see link below...

http://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Sky-Email-Tools/E-mails-disappearing-from-Inbox/td-p/345383

You will need to divert your issue to Sky.

Do let us know if it gets resolved.
