Exchange email issue since ICS update

[ Edited ]

Hi guys,

I set up my work Exchange email account to sync with my phone.

Before the ICS update over the weekend, if I read an email on my phone it would show as 'read' on my Outlook in the office. However this has stopped happening since the ICS update.

Any ideas if/how this can be fixed?

I have tried changing the setting 'In case of sync conflict' to 'update to server' instead of 'update to phone'. I didn't really know what this meant, but it sounded like it would fix the problem. It doesn't seem to have worked though.

Re: Exchange email issue since ICS update

I use exchange mail too, but mine is working fine. I know that doesn't help you, but perhaps the problem relates the the version of the exchange mail server? My exchange mail server is at 2010. I believe 2007 is supported too but you may get problems if you're exchange account is hosted on 2003.

You could try remove the account and adding it back and see if it works better.

HTH

Thanks for the reply.
I think we are on 2003, so that may be the problem. Just frustrating that it worked fine with Gingerbread...
As a side note - can you get HTML emails with Exchange 2010?

Yes. HTML emails from my 2010 exchange account are displaying perfectly in the email app.

Re: Exchange email issue since ICS update

Hi DaveCD,

I have tried deleting and starting again, but the same issue occurs.

As I said above, before the ICS update it all worked swimmingly. It appears to be a problem between between ICS and Exchange 2003, but if you have any other tips I could try I'd appreciate it as I have to 'read' most emails twice at the moment!

Cancel that. I changed the sync conflict setting to 'update to server' as I did before and, touch wood, it seems to be working now.
Thanks guys.

Re: Exchange email issue since ICS update

Hi DaveCD,

I'm still having issues with emails and how it syncs with Exchange in relation to Outlook on my PC. They don't seem to work in harmony like they did before the ICS update. For example, if I read an email on my phone, it will show a read on my PC (and vice versa). Or if I delete an email on my PC it will not show on my phone. This sin't happening at the moment, but worked fine on the previous software.
Are you aware of any general issues with ICS and Exchange 2003? Could that be the problem? From browsing various forums looking for a fix, it doesn't seem to be widespread issue but I'm also not the only one experiencing it.

Thanks

Re: Exchange email issue since ICS update

Sounds like a sync issue and i'm in the same boat but not too worried,  if I delete something on the phone by mistake it'll still be on my PC!!

Sometimes the simple answer is overlooked because it's technology that's complicated!

Re: Exchange email issue since ICS update

I don't remember there being a setting for 'sync conflict' on Gingerbread. I do wonder if that's the problem. You have to choose whether to 'update to device' or 'update to server'. I need it to do both. It certainly used to.

Re: Exchange email issue since ICS update

Hi ProfJosh,

Can you confirm which of the settings you're currently set up for, and what type of email protocol the affected accounts are using? I don't have a suitable device to hand to check, but I'd suspect that the "Update to server" option would be the correct one, so that whatever you do is stored there rather than locally.

It also sounds like there may be some sort of a POP v IMAP situation.

With POP (Post Office Protocol), the email client will check the email server, download the messages to the device and remove them from the server. This means that what you view on your handset doesn't show when you check later on your PC. This is handy when you have a box you want to filter quickly and empty regularly.

With IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol), the emails stay on the server and are just "viewed" by the client, so they are still there when you check via another client later. This makes it easier when you need to view and access accounts from different clients, for example remote working.
