Galaxy SII not dialing country code properly

Hi all,

Hoping some one can help with this issue. I just got my new SII today, and synced it with our MS Exchange server. All of our phone numbers are stored with full country dialing info [+44(0)20 XXXX XXXX] to work with our internal phone systems. However, when my SII tries to dial these numbers I get an error because it is using the full +44020XXXXXXXX number. My old blackberry was smart enough to drop the +44 bit, does the SII not handle this properly or is there something in the setup I need to tweak?

Any help is appreciated.

Regards

Looking at the numbers you have put the first has (0) the secound the ( ) have been removed  if its a UK number the 0 needs to be dropped after the +44 .

I think you can set Ms Exchange to help here

So to summerize if you dialed 0171 dial code you need to drop the 0 so it would read +44171 this is why your getting a error

Hope this helps

Re: Galaxy SII not dialing country code properly

I completely agree with you on the dialing method, but I'm not sure why the SII is not processing the numbers correctly. Exchange holds the +44 as the country code, and the 0 separately as the city/area code. My BB had no problem processing this, and if I was in the UK would dial 078...., and if out of the UK would dial +4478...

Does the SII just not know how to manage the full number, or is there a country setting I need to flip, or something else?

Thanks

Re: Galaxy SII not dialing country code properly

I hate Exchange but i now use OUTlOOK2010 to sync with my phone now, if you import in to there first it puts the 0 in as well i have just pulled a contact from my works server that i set up the same as you have saved it as a Vcard and that was listed the same way imported it on outlook and it stuck the 0 in i  have not even put it on the phone yet.

In outlook the Country code and Area code are on one line and the man number is on another line so why Exchange does this when there both Microsoft products i never no.

But it also boils down to who put the number on in the first place should of left the code blank or put the full area code in dropping the 0

How your BB sorted that mess out heavan knows

I have just synced the contact with the wifes HTC desire HD and thats the same as mine

Try importing the same number in to outlook and you will see it puts the 0 in

Re: Galaxy SII not dialing country code properly

the 0 in UK Numbers causes so much pain in the UK phone industry

If exchange is picking up the (0) as a City/Area code it is how the phone system has been setup the rest of the code is in the main number section it is purely how your phone system has been setup to export the number it looks like the first didget being the (0) has been told to put that in the City/Area Box at work we eddited every number took ages and any that is imported are edited first if there UK This is a pan and i can see why its anoying

What the phone does is to merge all three fields to geather the Country code +44 the area code which in your case says (0) with the main body to make up the full number

My windows phone does the same,

It the (0) on all the contacts on the exchange server in the same place in the City/Area section

Re: Galaxy SII not dialing country code properly

The weird thing is that it sends text messages with no problem. It looks like the messaging app can process the number, but for some reason the phone cannot.

Changing every number in our system is not feasible, as it would cause problems for the internal office phone. This seems like more of a bug on the Android side than anything, and I can't imagine we are the only company to use a full phone number. There has to be some other work around without trying to reprocess all the data in the company. Any thoughts?

Re: Galaxy SII not dialing country code properly

I have just tried dialing a uk number +440127******** and that fails to connect on a Nokia N97 and a windows phone

I'm not aware of a work aroung my IT department had this but from the phone system we have the whole number goes in the mainnumber field. Was wondering if the (0) has be put in the City/Area for a reason as the rest of the City/Area code is in the main

This is one of those domains that involves IT and Phone systems nutters and there not good bed felos

BB phones have allways been good as a Buisness Phone and they put alot into sorting there phones out for them but they have been taken over by other devices i am supprised this has not com up before now.

But we normally get Iphone Users making the brake. to Android

I have just put my old IPHONE 3G on Yack after it messed around updating, i tried importing again and that does the same

Now as fare as txts go, there sent through the mobile network and that must be able to coupe with it the +440

I was hoping some one from the eforum team could come in on this as there supposed to no about this

weather balckberry does somthing different then the rest i have no idea never messed with them, Even the companys i'm now looking after have not got BB phones

But you have spotted somthing here that affects all phone well other then Blackbery that is but as it involves Microsoft Exchange that might fox them

Re: Galaxy SII not dialing country code properly

I get all my calendar conf call invites in the format +44(0) 1234...

Why can't the Galaxy work this out!?  BlackBerry had no issues.  Is there a localisation setting somewhere?  I'm very unimpressed with this.
