Hi g0ggs123,
Thanks for sharing. My advice would be that if you're going to challenge the build of your particular unit with Samsung to do it with them directly. Although it may not be the cheapest option to get it repaired through them, it is the most secure way and manipulating the USB to make it appear like it wasn't damaged is both risky (in that you could break more than the USB) and also misleading the manufacturer.
I'm confident that if you explain that the indicator hasn't changed and request the USB to be checked for defaults which would cause corrosion, they would advise the proper proceedings. I must stress though that they may just confirm that the USB has been mishandled during use and confirm that the decision stands.
Feel free to update this thread once you manage to get it repaired.
Cheers, Ben

I was searching on the web for people experiencing similar problems. And came across this, I am not a Vodafone customer, I am currently with O2, early in my contract.
My phone stopped charging, works fine when the battery was charged but with no charge its a brick. I sent off to O2 and experienced the same issue as the OP and others. "Liquid damage". Now it seems to claim on the insurance I should of lied and given an accident that happened that caused it. Obviously I was not impressed when I was turned down on the insurance because *i* had not damaged teh phone and therefore it wasn't covered. (WTF?)
I have since cancelled the clearly worthless insurance and depending on if I manage to fix the phone msyelf (with some ebay part on the charger) or if that fails - see whether a battery charge will suffice for now, or try with Samsung direct.
So yes, I don't think this problem is only with vodafone, it just seems a cop out by the phone companies to get out of repairing them. As for my insurance, I guess i need to read the small print next time, if i get mobile insurance again it will be with someone else and I'll check what it covers.
Great phone, but the phone companies won't be doing much to impress their customers if *atmospheric conditions* is their copout to repairing phones...

I may check that the usb itself is the faulty part on mine first if it is - I shall try it simply to ensure it has genuine parts and not Hong Kong copies - but thats only because I had already paid for the copy a couple days back and will be here shortly anyway.

Liquid damage isn't covered under warranty anyway - if you can get liquid damage repaired under warranty, you are lucky Samsung are being lenient :-) I'll need to see if the problem is caused by the charger anyway. so may as well check that out. If 100pounds is the repair costs its cheaper than a trying to get a new phone, and I'll be saving that in data addon/insurance savings until then anyway.

The moisture sensors were triggered by the phone overheating because of the faulty USB socket.
The heat generates condensation, Samsung are aware of this and turn a blind eye to the moisture strips.
If 02 have removed the screws and failed to replace one of them, then they are at fault and should cover the cost of the repair as they have rendered your Warranty Void!
Personally I would only ever go to the Manufacturer for a repair! Too late for you though I'm afraid ![]()
Do you have a friend with the same phone that could lend you a screw for the repair process?

Just so I can let you in on my update. Part arrived from Hong Kong, a new usb circuit board. Total cost 6pounds including delivery. Phone no charges and works a charm. Decided to get insurance with someone else, costs less and probably has no less cover. Will read the small print next time.
Liquid Damage my foot.

I spent three months with the "charging paused" problem.
I kept telling vodafone it was the phone they told me it was the battery.
Battery 2 & 3 experienced the same issue.
eventually it stopped charging altogether and died in about three hours.
Warranty exchange through vodafone and the new phone is working fine with battery 2.
Just annoying that they wouldn't listen and it had to start affecting my business before they finally sent me a new phone!
