ICS & Bluetooth Connectivity

I see there are a few postings about Bluetooth connectivity since upgrading to ICS, but not found one that describes this issue.

Before I upgraded to ICS, ny car would idntify the phone and a premium Bluetooth device and allow calls and SMS messages to be used. Calls could be made and received and also SMS messages recevied and read in the car (on the screen or read-out loud).

However, since upgrading my SII to ICS the car can only recognise the phone as a basic handsfree device. Whilst I can still make & receive calls hands-free in the car, I have lost the ability to receive SMS messages.

If I use my wifes phone, a Samsung Galaxy SII without the ICS upgrade (cannot remember the exact version and do no thave it to hand, but it is the one immediately before the ICS), and pair that with the car, then I can happilly receve and read SMS messages on her phone.

When My wifes phone connects, I see a message on the phone saying "Remote SIM Mode Enabled", but I do not see this message on my phone when I connect that.

I have deleted the pairing 2-3 times and re-paired, but always the same results.

How do I re-enable the "remote SIM mode" on my ICS version phone so I can SMS in the car again, rather than having to pull over to read an SMS message on the phone.

This appears a backwards step - I upgrade the o/s only to loose functionility. Any thoughts or ideas?

Thanks in advance

Re: ICS & Bluetooth Connectivity

@jonb

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but as far as I am aware the rDAP (remote sim protocol) which allows the cars bluetooth to "take control" of the SIM has been removed in ICS, this means the cars bluetooth can only connect by HFP which will stream calls and music only.

Looking at other forums there is unfortunately no workaround at the moment apart from reverting back to GB.

Hope this helps

Steve

Ok, thanks. Sound like a huge "backwards" step removing such functionality, but if that is the case then not much I can do about it.

I think I will revery back th GB - not looked around as to how to do this - is it easy. Any threads or links you could point me at to help me - if not no worries, I will do some searching when I get a chance.

Thanks for the help.

Yiou can click on the link below.

http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Samsung-Galaxy-S2/How-To-Roll-Back-to-2-3-3/td-p/972043

Personally I'd roll back to 2.3.5.

If the links don't work then you can register with http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/ and then download any version you'd like.

Re: ICS & Bluetooth Connectivity

Been digging around on this and found that there has been new legislation on Bluetooth with cars, this is being lead by the USA

Basically in a nut shell is this is to stop on the Move txting

This is why Samsung have brought out a new car dock

Now the newer device the S3 have a Cardock mode now I don't no weather that has been put on the S2

This is triggered when its connected to the car dock

Now on the New S3 that also has not got rDAP but the txt messages are read to you, no the only way with it plugged in to send a txt is to speak to the device

But this is another example of Samsung doing stuff and not telling people so they can choose weather to upgrade or not

Rolling back will bring this back on, This can also be done at a Samsung service centre

This is a Joint Legislation with Car manufactures its not in stone at the moment in Europe but many are anticipating that it soon will be

But as always the Phone industry is miles ahead of the Automotive industry

You will find that All the new phones now Launched will have all versions of simm access removed, The Galaxy Note on Gingerbread has not got rDAP

So all you will be able to do Via your car is Make and recive a Call and stream Music

Re: ICS & Bluetooth Connectivity

@ proterra - and your phone is on ICS??

My Samsung Galaxy SII with ICS, connected to my car can make/receive calls, share its contacts and I can see the call lists (missed, dialed, etc).

My wifes Galaxy SII with GB, connected to my car can make/receive calls, share its contacts, I can see the call lists (missed, dialed, etc) AND I can receive SMS messages to the car radio, which it can then read out to me.

Re: ICS & Bluetooth Connectivity

@ Northern-dj

Can understand that - when i could use SMS via the bluetooth built into the car(and as I still can using my wifes phone in my car) it would allow me to read SMS messsages, have them spoken out to me - though it does sound like some sort of mentally deficient dalek when it does this :smileyhappy: - or even SEND new messages.

The ability to send messages is not one I want to use, but the ability to receive messages and be bale to read them on the dashboard and/or have them spoken out to me was extreamly useful.

If I have to revert to GB to do this, then that is what I will do.

Thanks for your input.

Yes the Voice is not a good one!!!! it uses the Google Voice same as the navigation

I think they are working on it as the one on the Note and Galaxy S3 is fare better

Some Car manufacture are now coming up with there own that speak to you but there just as bad

If you are thinking of rolling back Please follow Soupdragons Guide

Changing the 2.3.3 to 2.3.5 firmware but the way to do it is the same

Northern-dj

It is the one built into the car that I am referring to - my car has Bluetooth integrated into it and any SMS messages (at least those from my wife’s phone :smileyhappy: ) can be read as text both on the dashboard and on the radio/sat-nav screen.

On the radio/sat-nav screen I can also opt to have them read out, which is (i believe) done by the radio/sat-nav s/w and not the phone.

Whichever it is, it still sounds like a mentally deficient dalek :smileyhappy:

Thanks for the link again as well - will definately be doing this sometime soon.

It was much easier, nicer & safer to receive SMS messages to the car and be able to read them using the controls on the steering wheel, rather than have to stop every 20 mins when someone send me an SMS or even be tempted to pick up the phone, unlock it, open the SMS message then then read it - this would be illegal.

Ain't progres great :smileyhappy:

Re: ICS & Bluetooth Connectivity

Thanks all for the info so far - another question though.

I plan to downgrade to GB 2.3.5. I have read through thesoupdragons excellent post and it all looks pretty straight forward. I have only performed the upgrades through Kies so far, so have no experience of doing it other ways.

The links at the top of the post are dead-ends, which is to be expected as it is a few months old. I have downloaded the "I9100BUKJ3_I9100VODKI2_VOD.zip" fimrware and Odin 3 v1.8.3 from sammobile.

Is this the "offical" UK vodafone firmware for my phone? I have no interest in unlocking it for all networks or anything else fancy - I am quite happy with the official Vodafone one I used to have and retaining any warantee. All I want it to be able to receive and read SMS messages on the dashboard of my car, which I used to be able to o before I upgraded to ICS.

I am pretty sure it is, I just wanted to double check before I upgrade (well downgrade) to it. If I need to download the official 2.3.5 version from anywhere else can someone point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance.

Re: ICS & Bluetooth Connectivity

Can anyone confirm if I have the official Vodafone 2.3.5 GB version or where I can get it from if I do not.

Thanks in advance.

Re: ICS & Bluetooth Connectivity

HELP!!!!

Have tried rollng back to 2.3.5 and now stuck with a phone which I cannot use

Have followed TSDs instructions, but when the phone restarts after installing the 2.3.5 version I get a message saying:

"Sorry!

The application Software update (process com.wssyncmldm) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"

And a button "Force close"

Keeps cycling between this process and "Google Services Framework (process com.google.process.gapps)".

Have tried 3 times now, and re-downloaded and extracted the "I9100BUKJ3_I9100VODKI2_VOD.zip" in case it was corrupted - exactly the same.

Anything I can do to get my phone sorted or is it totally bricked:smileysad:

Re: ICS & Bluetooth Connectivity

Well done for sorting that out, sorry I wasn't available earlier.

You could flash ICS using the same method...?

Lots have people have found it works better after flashing manually.

Up to you though...

Re: ICS & Bluetooth Connectivity

Thanks - Actually still having major issues - installed 2.3.5 about 6 times now, each time something different doesn't work

Now Market/Play will not show any of my apps & email will not set up any of my email accounts

Latest flash was to resolve issue with email craching all the time, flash before that was for something else, and so on.

Going to upgrade back to 4.0.3 so at least I should have a phone that works, but will not have SMS in the car.

Cannot beleive how diffiult this is - just want to get back to a version wich will allow me to use voice & SMS via cars bluetooth.
