Re: Issue with Updating firmware on Galaxy S II

i'm having the same problem with this.I can't do a firmware upgrade.

My concern is that if i take my phone back to vodafone, they will charge me £100 to fix something that isn't my fault. I don't have a spare £100 at all. Last time i took my phone in to be repaired, i was told it was water damaged (absolutely not true) and it would be £100. As the problem was my microphone not working, i didn't have a choice but to get it repaired. When it was repaired, the engineers report said the speaker had been replaced, and a software upgrade done. Which again didn't ad dup.

I'm jsut scared that taking it back to vodafone will have a similar experience. I have no faith in their service now.

Why not locate a Samsung affiliated Service Centre, contact them and see if they provide a postal repair service if they are too far away from you?

Re: Issue with Updating firmware on Galaxy S II

Oh that old £100 repair thing

We have on Google+ A guy that has done what Soupdragon has said and i think he was the first to completly Brick a phone

And with in Five days he had his phone back working

Underwarranty and No Charge

He was upfront and straight with them, after all the tut tut they said no problem

Most people are not aware there out there but they are

If you are posting send Registered Next day and aske them to do the same, Most will

You can track your phone as well with most and Samsung will no as well so if its a repeat problem after three times the whole handset is replaced

Re: Issue with Updating firmware on Galaxy S II

thanks for the advice. I see all the service centres in Scotland are carry in only which is frustrating! I'll take it into the vodafone shop at the weekend, with a printout of this forum thread, and say that if it's going to cost me £100 again, not to bother, just give it back to me unfixed.

oooh it's frustrating though!

@gaia0

What not look at Service Centres outside of Scotland?

If you can find one that does a Postal Service it won't matter where it is.

Just a thought

Re: Issue with Updating firmware on Galaxy S II

Sorry to open up an oldish thread, but Ive just come across this same problem about being stuck on 2.3.3 while I was trying to do an upgrade.  OTA upgrade fails telling me to try Kies, but Kies tells me that I cannot upgrade.  I have upgraded a while ago, but since then the phone was sent back to Vodafone to repair a camera fault.  Im guessing they have put a software version on that has made my phone unable to be upgraded.  Cheers for that Vodafone!

So, Id really like to not have to wait a week for them to flash it and maybe get it wrong again.  I have a Samsung service centre quite close, but will they charge me?  I got the phone direct from Vodafone originally.  I just want to make sure that I can get ICS when its released.

Re: Issue with Updating firmware on Galaxy S II

No the will not charge you as the firmware has a fault

They will only charge if you want it debranding i would let them take a look this seems to be getting comon

The reason why Kies will not let you is because it thinks the rom on your phone is a custom rom

heaven knows what rom is on there but The service centre can do the job write even put the Proper Vodafone firmware on and sort this mess out

Now you can do this your self as well folloing the Guide soup dragon did

Oh Carphone warhouses are not service centres !!!!!

@B_K_Brown

The easiest way is to follow these instructions

http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Samsung-Galaxy-S2/Odin-ICS-Firmware-instructions/td-p/1079043

Sometimes the simple answer is overlooked because it's technology that's complicated!

Re: Issue with Updating firmware on Galaxy S II

I took the phone to Manchester's Trafford Centre. In there they had a department that spend time flashing and updating their phones so I left it with them for an hour whilst I went off to eat at a restaurant with the wife.

Got ICS on the handset now so all is working well, shame you have to get these things manually done when Vodafone were the ones who cocked up the versions internally when it went in for 'repair'.
