Re: Issue with Updating firmware on Galaxy S II

I agree with Soup it has the wroung firmware on

This is worrying as this will only add to the problem if Vodafone are putting the wroung firmware on

Now the only thing i can think is that the Vodafone rom is not on Samsungs servers, But on Googles servers for the OTA to work

The message you get is the same message some one would get if they had a custom rom on.

Vodafone you need to put on the website which way S2 users need to update there phones. EG if you have kicked Kies in to touch as it seems that Phones from Vodafone can only be updated OTA

I would go to Samsung and get them to sort this out as clearly VF is making a mess of this

Re: Issue with Updating firmware on Galaxy S II

Thanks for the information guys. I will see if I can drop the phone into the local samsung centre and report back with what they have to say about it.

Re: Issue with Updating firmware on Galaxy S II

I had the same problem, could not upgrade via keis as kies unable to upgrade device, and online loaded but failed after install.  I therefore took the advise and visited Samsung Service Centre, explained the problem with the firmware and hey presto in an hour they bricked it!!

Should get another replacement tomorrow from Vodaphone who can't understand why I received my third phone in December version 2.3.3.  Lets hope replacement is at least 2.3.4.

Re: Issue with Updating firmware on Galaxy S II

How can Vodafone get away with peddling non upgradeable phones? Just bought a SGS2 for the missus for xmas and I can't get the latest update without going back to the shop, and it seems that is not always guaranteed.

where are Vodafone on this one? Presumably they have just sold a record number of bricks. Their must be thousands of people in the same predicament, do they expect everyone to find this thread and know what to do. When will they get fix.

Re: Issue with Updating firmware on Galaxy S II

Pretty big disgrace tbh. Anyway I contacted the local samsung centre and the guy who 'does that' is on maternity leave and they are not sure when he will be back in!

Re: Issue with Updating firmware on Galaxy S II

Just done a search for my 'Local' Samsung Service Centre, and it reckons the nearest is 68 miles away.

This is not an acceptable solution. Might try going back to the Vodafone shop and kicking off somewhat. Demand a new handset that actually works, and is on at least a recent version of the software.....

Hi BuzzGuzz,

I did post earlier in the thread to explain that if you send your phone for repair through Vodafone, we'll get this sorted for you. You can find all the information you need on arranging a repair here: Repair through Vodafone

You can arrange a repair through your local store, or have a repair pack sent to you which means you can sort it all from home. When you book the repair, make sure you state that there's a software problem and it needs updating.

And don't worry, it's not thousands of users- we've seen about seven or eight on the forum in total and not heard any reports from anywhere else.

Thanks,

Tom

Re: Issue with Updating firmware on Galaxy S II

Hi Tom, I know Northern-dj kindly says that you are working to figure this out but I was wondering if any progress had been made as I have an XEU and Kies is still telling me that I'm unable to upgrade via Kies.

Re: Issue with Updating firmware on Galaxy S II

Hi Mrjambo, if you got your handset from Vodafone then the instructions in this post are correct. There's no more looking into to be done, it's just a case of sending the phone for repair as having a software fault.

Thanks,

Tom

Re: Issue with Updating firmware on Galaxy S II

then it needs to go to samsung for repair Dial a phone are a independent retailer like Car Phone Warhouse ( They will not fix it !!)

Most Service centres are independent and will sort this out for you and it will be FOC

Now on the other thread we have a user who has sent his back as instructed but has run into a problem

Not Good !!!! Hopefully that will get sorted

Vodafone users have two choices let Vodafone or Samsung Fix it

Re: Issue with Updating firmware on Galaxy S II

You know this is all well and good but what you're forgetting is that although I purchased the phone from Dial a Phone my service provider is Vodafone to whom I pay a monthly fee. And as per one of my earlier posts it was a Vodafone OTA update that caused my phone not to be upgradeable via Kies it had nothing to do with Samsung. So why would Samsung want to repair something that was caused by someone else. As everything functioned perfectly until the OTA.

Re: Issue with Updating firmware on Galaxy S II

Hi mrjambo,

Can you confirm the firmware version that's on the handset please? As far as I was aware, firmware versions beginning with XEU are open market, not Vodafone variants?
Either way, I get what you're saying about paying money to us and we should be willing to help, and we are, that's why we've been responding in this thread. Unfortunately there's a limit to what we can do in some situations, so we can't always do everything you'd expect us to.

Thanks,

Tom

Re: Issue with Updating firmware on Galaxy S II

[ Edited ]

Yes Tom, here is the current firmware version according to an earlier version of Kies PDA:K13/PHONEKI1/CSC:KH2 (XEU). I very much appreciate your help by the way, but am just a bit annoyed that an OTA appears to have broken my phone, at least as far as getting further updates is concerned. Is there any way the OTA can be removed thus leaving the firmware I had prior to this? (Which was installed via Kies).

just to add to this the 2.3.4 update was installed via Kies and it appears the OTA has done nothing apart from making my phone unable to upgrade via Kies.

Unfortunately there's no way to revert, it's simply a case of sending the phone for repair.

Thanks,

Re: Issue with Updating firmware on Galaxy S II

@mrjambo

You can Roll Back the Firmware yourself using my guide HOW TO ROLL BACK

Just use the firmware that you need I9100XXKH1.rar  2.3.4 (XEU)

Hope that helps

Hi Gareth,

The version you have seems to have the wrong Phone/Modem file, (KE1).

I believe it should have PHONE: KG1

PDA:       I9100BUKG2

PHONE:  I9100BUKG1

CSC:       I9100VODKE2

This might explain why Kies is saying... "This version of the device cannot be updated"

You can find your nearest service centre from: Samsung Service Centre Locations

I've done a *#1234# and received the same details. KE1 instead of KG1. I guess I need to get a sammy service centre to sort me out?

Hi Tom, this is good news. What do we do for a replacement phone in the meantime? I use my phone for work and can't really be without it / one even for a day?

Also, add me to the 7 or 8 people in the forums who've had issues. I've done an OTA upgrade which was hosed. it told me to upgrade via Kies on the PC... which has subsequently told me my device is not upgradeable via Kies.

Hi greedoe,

Yeah I think you need to explain to the Service Centre, that ultimately whatever Firmware goes on the phone, you need it to be recognised by Kies.

That way when ICS is released you will have the option to upgrade.

Failing that you could use my Guide, HERE and do it yourself...! Wink.gif

Re: Issue with Updating firmware on Galaxy S II

Tom, quick update...eventually after kicking up about having to take the time to a centre or being without a phone, Vodafone did a sawp out of my old handset and provided a new one...with 2.3.5...which is great, but it now has the original 2.3.5 problem of all of the icons rearranging themselves when the phone reboots or is powered off!!! will pop in to my local store again today (we're now on first name terms) so see where we go from here...:-(
