Need advice on flashing my SGS2

Hi Guys.
I could really do with some help to flash my phone, but I am a little confused about the files I will need and the process.
I would like to upgrade to one of the leaked stock 2.3.4 firmwares. I have been waiting for Samsung to officially release the firmware, but they are taking their time. Then when they do I will have to wait again for Vodafone to put their bloatware on it.
The reason I want to upgrade is so that I can use this app... https://market.android.com/details?id=eu.chainfire
One of the other reasons I have decided not to wait is because some of the 2.3.4 versions that have started coming out (the Nordic version for one) don't seem to have the required bits to be able to run the app. The DSLR Controller app requires USB host functionality and some of the 2.3.4 releases are lacking the vital bits to run it. The last thing I want to do is wait and then find out that I still can not run the app.
I was told on another forum that if I wanted to flash my phone, using this guide and firmware, http://androidflip.com/android-2-3-4-gingerbread-x
The other thing I wanted to know is if this will affect my phone in any bad way while using it on the Vodafone network?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. My head is spinning from all the different ROMs out there.

Firstly Flashing is don at your own risk
But i would not flash to use a app i would flash because you want to
You might find XDA's site a bit scarry and they don't like noobs that much
*******First thing to check is weather your three button recovery works *******
Now all Samsugs use on a PC a software pacage called odin
and then the firmware
now there are two types Three file and single
Now if you are debranding your better off using a three file rom, its claener and safer
Now The Noob Guide on XDA is
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1
Now if this is a UK phone you need the right firmware on so to avoid braking your samsung warrenty
This needs to have a CSC of XEU
Aother good site is www.samfirmware.com Now i have done loads of Galaxy s phones
and i have done two S2 and i put 2.3.3 on and i will let Kies do the rest when its out it's still only in Nordic countrys still
when its out in the rest of europe you can do the odin method
Also if your phone is on a Contract then when you set it up to XEU then it will be unlocked
Now if you don't fancey this Most Dealers will debrand for you as they no How bad Network firmware is
remember if the three button recovery does not work Do not attempt to do any thing.......
You only need to root if your going to go down the custom root other wise leave it alone for now don't try and do to much

Thanks for the replies.
Glad to know the phone is already unlocked. I am assuming that I need to download only the 3rd firmware in that list? XWKE7_PHONE:XEUKD1_CSC:XXKE4 - Unbranded European Firmware.
Also, is rooting absolutely necessary? I know that Chainfire said that rooting wasn't essential to get the app to run. Or is it something specific to this firmware and must be done to complete the flash?
Will Kies still pick up updates after this or will I have to rely on Odin to update in future?
Sorry for the noob questions. I am new to this and am just starting to get my head around it.
Thanks again.

Recovery menu = Volume UP + Home + Power
Download Mode = Volume DOWN + Home + Power

I think thats the firmware the giva away is the XEU in the Phone bit and XX on the CSC
on http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s2/397640-
If you put the right 2.3.3 Uk XEU firmware on you will need to change your CSC over from VOD to XEU if all goes well then at the moment Kies will say you have the right firmware on, Then when 2.3.4 is rolled out you will get told
and we don't mind noob stuff we don't bite
To check and change your CSC in your phone dialer dial *#272*imei#* (Display/change CSC code) where it says imei that is one of the long numbers on your box but do this after you have flashed

Right, I checked that recovery mode works and it does. I get a screen with blue and yellow writing and various options to factory reset etc.
I had a look through the XDA thread and found this firmware with an XEU csc.
XWKH4
Android 2.3.4
This package has: PDA: XWKH4| Modem/phone: XXKH3| CSC: XEUKD1
Download: http://www.multiupload.com/WWT5Q0XJAP
XWKH4 Stock Kernel: http://www.multiupload.com/0AO2C53ZC6
Password: intratech@XDA
It is a Franekstein firmware. Is that good or bad?
It is true I do want to flash to be able to use DSLR Controller, but I want to learn about flashing as I enjoy fiddling with my gadgets. There are a few custom ROMs I would like to have a play with a some point in the future and I thought that this would be a good way to get in to it. The whole reason I got an Android phone was to be able to do things like this.
Thanks again for the help. It feels like I am getting somewhere now.

Have you registered with www.samfirmware.com
That has only stock firmware on it and you need a XEU un branded person to tell you what firmware they have

Thanks
I would try this ... I9100XXKH3 with multi CSC OXAKH13
Factory Data Reset
Format Internal SDcard, remove any External Micro SDcard
Flash with Odin
Quickly skip through setup on Phone.
Open Dialer and Type *#272*your imei number here#
Change CSC to XEU press OK, phone will factory reset.
Now setup phone properly.
