New Problem with Galaxy S2

The wife's just got the text to say she's blown her 1Gb allowance this month and we're only two thirds through the billing month. When I check the unbilled section of the account  there's a mass of data usage each day at various times. Each is about 2 Mb and on a couple of occasions they number 40+ over the course of the day.

She now uses the phone to check her emails on her bt and sky mailboxes and does very very light surfing and accessing Facebook.

I called vf to ask if there's any apps I can use to monitor what's using all the data but they were no help. I've installed 3G watchdog to keep track of the usage but it still keeps happening.

Any hints on tracking down this drain and what setting should she set up to stop access to the net that she's not in control of.

Cheers A

Right first thing take up the offer only cost £5 for 500MB

Trust me for now its a gods send

Now Your in the Facebook sync club i bet

There seems to be alot of syncing going on and that is what killing things

The data can be a picture or anything realy some you will never find out to vodafone its just a data stream

Go in to settings and accounts and sync

Un tick Auto Sync this will gray out all accounts (Nothing wroung with the phone)

If we had unlimited internet this would not be a problem now you can sync from the apps in fact most when you post or open will sync

Now Google maps can be a pain if you have the Use wireless networks ticked as it uses your network for locations now you can untick or follow the bellow.

Now the other thing is you can switch the data off when she is out and about with a switch widget, This leaves wifi on but shuts 3G data of ( Vodafone will advice you not to do that )

Now this will also stop any rouge apps using your data

Also gives you chance to get to grips with 3g monitor

Also the My Vodafone app is good for getting a guide on how much data you have left so you can set up 3g Monitor

Now you can also take a look at what apps are running in the back ground updating them self

Now you may want to remove them if there not needed like News apps there a big drain, and picture uploading apps such as picasa

I no this is a Big explanation took alot of

smiley-68.gif

But i hope this will Help

Don't panic we all have been were you are Now !!!!!!

Oh welcome to the Eforum

Re: New Problem with Galaxy S2

I also had this problem. You've done the right thing installing 3G Watchdog. I had to shell out for the paid for version to determine exactly what app was using all the data as that version breaks down usage by app.

After a few hours it became clear who the culprit was. In my case it was the 'AP Mobile News' app. The frustrating thing was that this app comes built into the firmware so cannot be removed. Instead I just went into settings, and set the auto refresh to 'None' before removing the widget from the workspace.

If I hadn't become so tired of dealing with vodafone's customer service team I would have raised a complaint as the extra data used by this included app cost me an extra £5 a month in data for several months, as well as requiring me to pay for an additional app to diagnose the problem.

You can see other people have had the same problem with this app here:

Re: New Problem with Galaxy S2

Yep a rouge app, but its not as such if we all had unlimited data then no one would no, just a thought as this is in the phones firmware is it on the vodafone version ? or the xeu version.

if its on all then a complant needs to be raised with samsung as the only way to fix this is to root your device which voids your warranty.

shutting your data off stops this as well be it should not be on and running, now we no vodafone from time to time have messed around with firmware leaving things off or taking things out, well i think they need to remove this as its no use to any one, but as its using data i dout they will
