No 3G signal on new S2

Please can someone help. I have a new Samsung Galaxy S2 phone.
When I first used it this morning it had 3G as I was able to check facebook and even download an app. But since then 3G has disappeared (although I was able to connect using my home wi-fi which appears fine).
I don't think it's a signal strength issue as I'm back at home where it downloaded an app this morning (super quickly too, faster than iPhone was)! And 3G didn't work anywhere when I was out and about this morning.
I tried restoring factory settings. This hasn't worked.
What else can I try? Do I need to call vodafone?

1). Does the issue happen in just one location?
No - it happens everywhere.
2). Does the issue occur if you try your SIM card in a different phone?
I don't have another phone to try it in. I did take the sim out and give it a wipe, and the 3G returned but only for another 5 mins or so, then it disappeared again.
3). Can you check your coverage here? Please bear in mind that this is only a guideline and can never be 100% accurate, particularly for indoor coverage.
Coverage at home looks OK, but this issue is the same everywhere I've been today.
4). Can you check our Faults Board, which contains all the mast issues we’re aware of.
Glanced through, but wasn't really sure where to start. This is the first time I've ever posted to a forum.
5). Does this issue happen on 2G/3G or both. To check this, you can amend your phone's network settings, our Help Centre contains all the instructions, just select your model of phone and then select "network".
Sorry, I haven't got a clue what this means, I'm a slight technophobe. In short my new phone can make calls OK, and even internet when at home with wi-fi, but can't access 3G which I do need from a mobile.
6). What is the full postcode of where the issue occurs (if you’re uncomfortable with this appearing on the forum, then please add it to your profile by clicking “My eForum Settings” on the front page and then selecting “Personal Information”
Everywhere in Chigwell (IG7), Ilford (IG1) and Goodmayes (RM6) which are the 3 places I've been today.
7). How far you have to travel to get signal
Phone signal is OK everywhere, however nowhere I've tried so far can get me a 3G signal.
8). Do you get any error messages/tones if you’re having problems with calling/texting
No issues with calling.
Please let me know if this can be rectified as I took delivery of the phone on Tuesday and only have 7 days to return if I can't use it.

Can you make phone calls? If not try this..
Menu >Settings >Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Newtwork mode
>Gsm/WCDMA (Auto mode) select.
Also in same Menu make sure you APN is set to Vodafone.
or is it just the Internet ?
Go to same Menu as Above and make sure Use Packet Data is Enabled/Ticked

Thanks so much guys but none of the above works.
I have been through the settings menu and everything is ticked as suggested.
Northern DJ - don't think it's a network issue as my husband is vodafone, also my work mobile, and both can still get 3G.
Calls are fine, just won't connect using 3G.
Think best bet is to return to vodafone before my 7 days are up.

Hi Mrs_H,
Thanks for trying the suggestions.
If your husband is on Vodafone then would it be possible for you to switch SIM cards? If the issue follows the SIM and your husband's SIM works in your handset then the SIM could be faulty.
If you're heading into town today you could pick up a new SIM card which may alleviate the problem. Failing that a call to 191 would enable us to send you a new SIM or you can reply to my email with the requested information and we can send you one. All this is assuming the issue follows the SIM.
If the issue stays with the handset then I recommend you get it exchanged before the 7th day passes.
