Phone is awfully buggy since Ice Cream Sandwich update!

Hello there,

I updated my S2 yesterday as i was aware the new ICS was out and i was really looking forward to it (the main reason i purchased the handset). Since the update my phone has gone extremly laggy. If i press the middle button to return to the main menu  it takes at LEAST 3 seconds before the handset does anything.

It was a brilliant phone before the update, had over 120 apps and tons of music, videos the lot and not one single problem. Never had to reset or take out my battery or anything. Since the update it has hanged so badley i have had to remove the battery 4 times. It struggles to do very basic things like go onto my message menu and return to the main menu without locking up. It used to be really snappy and fast and now its really un-pleasant to use. Has anyone else got this problem?

Did you follow the update process correctly?

You should have first backed up all or your data

Next you should have re-set your phone back to its original factory state

Next would have been the update

Next you should have done another re-set of your phone

Just to add...

I would try and do a factory re-set and see how your SGS2 performs then.

If all OK re-add your apps etc. one by one, testing your phone each time just in case you have some apps that are not compatible with the new up-date

Cheers. Yes i done the procedure exactly as Kies stated. The middle button problem is very frustrating. Especially when your used to your phone being very fast.

This could well be a faulty Home button.

I recall some months ago a similar fault reported by a Member.

I believe you are still within your "cooling off", 7 day period? If so a replacement can be organised.

If not, then a repair can be arranged by Vodafone or you may prefer to arrange a repair via a Samsung Service Centre.

Re: Phone is awfully buggy since Ice Cream Sandwich update!

Hi, im having the same problem but never had a single problem witnh gingerbread, i could hammer the hell out of it before. And I did everything as below.

1. BACKUP everything, I won't go through all the available options...

2. BACKUP again

3. BACKUP again just to make sure

4. Make sure your phone is fully charged

4. Factory Re-set, into dialer and type *2767*3855# (this will wipe EVERYTHING that you have purchased or downloaded onto the phone and format the SD card)

5. Your phone will now be back to how it was when you received it in that little box from Vodafone

7. During setup of the phone register with a Google Account if you want to do the update OTA

8. Make sure your phone is fully charged.

9. For OTA update you will either get a notification or you can look for it in Applications, then Settings, then scroll down to About Phone, then Software Update, OR

7. Connect to Kies

8. Update the phone to ICS

9. Factory Re-set, into dialer and type *2767*3855#

Re: Phone is awfully buggy since Ice Cream Sandwich update!

From what i have read on this forum i don't think i will b updating to ICS. AVI films not working anymore nor launchers or apps as well as the phone bein very slow and laggy i mean its crazy tbh an update meant to improve things not make things worse or harder etc. Although i still await the update as i got my phone via CPW but unless there issues get sorted i don't see the need to downgrade so to speak.

Re: Phone is awfully buggy since Ice Cream Sandwich update!

GUYS!

There is nothing really wrong with ICS,

Here's what you needed to do before updating to ICS.

1. Backup Data & Apps

2. Factory Reset your phone

3. Update to ICS

4. Factory Reset your phone again.

I haven't recieved ICS yet so I wouldn't really know but this is what I heard.

Re: Phone is awfully buggy since Ice Cream Sandwich update!

Did all that and all worked fine. All I'm saying is there is no advantageous difference in updating. Have had something called force close on a few apps on the ics but never on gb.

Re: Phone is awfully buggy since Ice Cream Sandwich update!

Right You will find that there are alot of third party apps that are not compatable

The Galaxy Nexus will not see apps the S2 can as there not compatable

The problem is pinning this down to the apps

well its not Games

it will be a app that uses the system

Facebook is a pain in the kneck and with that on othere apps can have problems

Now before you all run to the hills and say well the phone .apk force closes well just about every app has a connection to that this is call Monitor phone status

so take a look at what apps are running in the back ground

any apps you do fine contact the developer of the app

Now here is another tip try changing the Touchwiz launcher to say adwLauncher or Launcher pro

I think Touchwiz is a Buggy Launcher any how

Re: Phone is awfully buggy since Ice Cream Sandwich update!

Good morning folks,
Upgraded to ICS on Friday, followed the instructions by the good people on here and everything went very smoothly, in fact when i logged back into my Google account all my apps started automatically downloading again, brilliant! My only problem so far is when i receive an email from my ntlworld.com account it disappears of the screen before i’ve had a chance to read it, also my emails are no longer appearing on my pc via windows live. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Have been into the email settings on my phone and cant see anything out of the ordinary.

Cheers.

@clumprider

Your email issue could be related to pop/imap issues.

Your incoming settings will either use a pop server or an imap server.

pop server will only deliver to one location, whereas imap can simultaneously deliver to multiple locations.

[EDIT]

Can you check your SSL security settings are correct?

Can you post your settings, but obviously not include your actual email part... XXXXX@email.com

@thesoupdragon

Not to sure what you mean by SSL security settings buddy.

My settings are

Incoming mail server - POP3

Incoming mail (POP3) - pop.ntlworld.com

outgoing mail (SMTP) - smtp.ntlworld.com

Do you need any other information?

My actual email settings are the same when i was running Gingerbread, nothing from the settings have changed. Its a weird one!

Thanks.

Re: Phone is awfully buggy since Ice Cream Sandwich update!

Open the Mail App

  • Press Menu > Settings
  • click on your email address
  • scroll down to "Incoming Settings" and click on it.

There you should see... "Security type"

Your Ports and Security will be the same as mine!

I assume you are with VirginMedia?

Re: Phone is awfully buggy since Ice Cream Sandwich update!

Despite what woppy says kies did the ICS update on my phone without any requests to backup prior. All seems to have gone OK and phone is noticably faster especially when browsing etc. BUT, big BUT rSAP is no longer available and my car kit no longer works (mercedes Command) the BT connection finds the phone and the phone finds the car but the pin number input never works and the phone cannot connect. A very expensive mistake for me as I work extensively from the car on the move. The current solutioin seems to be to 'root' and buy an app to make rSAP work again. Not overly happy to do this as i'm a technical clutz.
