So, Vodafone. It's your software messing it up. Can you explain this please?
My phone still has really poor GPS. My four year old Android phone gets far better GPS than the GS2, which is practically useless.
And no, I'm not "sending my phone in", as there is nothing that you can do to it there that I can't do here.
Please look into this Vodafone. Prove to us that you care once the contract is signed......

Talked with technical service (again!). They said they can't do anything about it after all this and transferred me to Customer service who now wants me to send it for repair... again! No way I'm doing that, those people on the phone are absolutely clueless. Tom, Wayne, could I please get an answer, or my contract cancelled? I signed it on the basis of having a full working phone, which I never had!

Hi guys,
Many of the people reporting here have said that it started working again for them, so we need to see categorically who is still having an issue and what firmware version you are on.
If you are being affected by this now, please can you post to confirm this along with your current Firmware version so we can see where we now stand?

Hi Guys,
I can see that this thread has not had any responses since 15/02/2012.
However if you are still having issues please can you try and update any map applications that use GPS including Google Maps if possible and let me know if you are still having issues with this so it can be flagged onto our devices team.
Once done, please let me know what versions of the apps you are running.
Thanks for your patience here.

Unexplicably, after all this, the gps finally started to work (with absolutely no change in anything) and is now working perfectly. It only took 2 months and a lot of wasted time. Thanks anyway.

Hi,
my GPS was working fine after Vodafone fixed the problem in December,or whenever it was. However now I am back to square one.
I just left it running for 28 minutes with no fix. Last week I sometimmes got one in 5 - 10 minutes.
All I get is ... Waiting for Location.
Google maps is up to date.

It seems unlikley that a variety of people are having problems with their GPS unless it was a bug with vodafone again.
Thanks for any suggestions (which don't include sending my phone to a service centre!)

EDIT: I always have data turned off at home and connect to WIFi.
Just thought I would try putting phone into flight mode and enabling / disabling data connection and got a GPS fix in about a minute. This definitely reminds me of the earlier GPS problems.
When out and about I have data turned on and wifi off but can't geta fix.
Ideas?

This is difficult for us as you're currently the only person reporting this issue. If you look back over the thread to the previous issue, there were many people reporting it and so it was obvious it was a widespread issue, whereas nobody else is currently reporting this.
I know you've asked us not to recommend sending the phone for repair, but that's the only option at this stage. The previous issue is definitely fixed, so this is our only suggestion.
Thanks,
Tom

Your Phone has an option to use WiFi Masts as an aid to getting a GPS Lock. This doesn't mean you connect to anyone's WiFi, but that it uses the WiFi locations to help pinpoint your position.
It may help to leave WiFi enabled when you are "out and about".

Strangely enough after weeks of problems I can get an immediate fix now!
Only thing that I have done differently that might actually relate somehow to the GPS was to open Google maps as a stand alone app. - I received a message on screen telling me it was up to date or the current version (I forget the exact message) then exited it and then run navigation.
Definitely something software going on.
Thanks for the advice.
Tom: I was aware of the previous issue being fixed, which is why I mentioned it in my post! Looking through postings several other people have flagged an issues since that time.
Cheers

I made the suggestion that it was Google Maps related back in post #51
...and your problem was resolved by a Google Maps Update!
<sarcasm> After all, what do I know...? </sarcasm>

Reported mine couple of months earlier. Followed all tips and tricks. GPS quality on this phone/network combination is genuinely dreadful.
I'd suggest the reason people aren't repeatedly reporting the problem is likely more through resignation or apathy than any suggested success.
Still, ever the optimist...

Mine is still intermittent. Sometimes it will take over half an hour, sometimes it's quick.
Pretty ###### poor really. My old phone had an instant lock and was much more acurate. The S2 is a disappointment in this.

Hi guys,
dpellam - I'll flag your post to James so he knows you’ve provided he details for him.
zzubnik - I noticed on the last page that James spotted your details weren't up to date so he suggested an upgrade. Can you confirm the details James requested as well for me so we know the latest information and he can add yours to dpellam's when passing this on for investigation?

Hi Everyone,
The issue that this thread was originally related to was fixed a long time ago. There's no general issue with GPS on Galaxy S2- a number of us in the office use it on a regular basis with no issues. GPS can take some time to lock on any device, as it depends on a number of geographical factors. As this main issue is resolved, I'm going to close the thread.
I'm afraid all we can suggest is that you try using a different application on the handset, as it could be down to app compatibility, or alternatively send your handset away for repair if it's not working at all.
Thanks,
Tom
