SGS2 and Sim Pin. Pin required to be re-entered every now and again.

I have a minor hassle with my phone, in that every day or two it needs me to re-enter the Sim Pin (the one that is required when you reboot the phone). This happens without the phone being re-booted. Often this happens in the middle of the night, when nothing is affecting the phone (IE, it cant have been switched off in a pocket or joggled, or anything). So I'll wake up and find the Pin entery screen showing.
While its a minor annoyance, my big worry is that it will get into "Enter your Pin" mode while in my pocket, get a wrong pin entered, then become locked.
Any Ideas as to what could be doing this? Sim on the way out (poor contacts? - it is several years old), some software updates happening that cause the Pin to be reentered?
Cheers all....

Hi jimleshed,
Are you sure your phone isn't actually rebooting without your knowledge? Mine does as a result of doing a recent upgrade and I often wake up in the morning with the screen waiting for me to enter my sim pin. If you go to settings > about phone > status then scroll down to Up time, it should show how long your phone has been on.

Well, I guess it could be that, I havent thought of checking the uptime. And it looks like it was a reboot that causes it. uptime shows as sometime last night was when it last restarted.
Will switch off auto updates and see if it stops doing it!
Cheers

It shouldn't be associated with auto updates as I don't believe there are any apps that require a reboot after installation or an update, unlike Windows....
The upgrade I was referring to was a system or firmware upgrade, from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 etc. which involves a reboot as part of the process. If you have done a firmware update, either OTA (Over The Air) or via Kies then you should perform a factory reset to help reduce the likelihood of any problems. You would or should know if you'd done one of those updates as the phone would have rebooted as part of the update process.
You could try connecting to Kies and see if there is an update available for the phone, if so it may fix the issue you're having. Though before you do any kind of system or firmware update via Kies or OTA always back up any media files to a pc or external memory card and back up contacts to Google etc. then perform a factory reset before setting up the phone again.

HI again, Thanks for the input...
I havent done an update on the phone for weeks, last time was through kies about 2 weeks ago, when the GPS problem was sorted.
I have switched off auto updates but it did the "request Pin" again last night.
Wonder if its a problem with the Sim? It is a very old one...
cheers

Hi jimleshed, if the sim is an old one I would call VF and request they send out a new one, a relatively painless process. Will either make a difference or it won't
Just noticed the new smileys ![]()
