Samsung S2 screen unlock.

Hi all,

Been having another annoying issue with my Galaxy S2, and wondered if anyone else had it.

I use the unlock screen where you draw a pattern to unlock the phone.

Since ICS, I've noticed that it'll not draw a consistant pattern infrequently, so it'll look like you've taken your finger off the screen half way through your pattern.  It does this maybe 5 to 10 times, then will work.  It doesn't seem to count them as failed attempts, weirdly.

I didn't get this issue on the old Gingerbread unlock screen, and I've tried taking the screen protector off (which is a decent one)

My daughter also gets the issue on my phone, and she's not got hard old finger tips like me!

Anyone else had this happen?  Is it just another in a longish line of annoying Galaxy habits?

Re: Samsung S2 screen unlock.

Hi Mozza76,

I must admit that I’ve not seen any reports regarding this from other users and as such would suggest that it is a handset issue.

Due to this I would recommend backing up all of your data and performing a factory reset to see if this improves things for you.

If not, I would then look at sending the phone away for a free of charge repair.

Exactly the same issue with my galaxy s2 - happens every couple of days then 3 or 4 times before the pattern will complete

Re: Samsung S2 screen unlock.

Hmmm - is there an easy way to do a back up, then is there anywhere that talks me through putting it all back on?

If I do, will the back up stick everything back where I had it - as that takes ages.

Actually though, I haven't had the problem since they sent me a new SIM card, as they said mine was an very old one which didn't self update (had other issues), so will see how that goes too.

Re: Samsung S2 screen unlock.

This used ot happen to me quite a lot on 2.3.5 but not since the upgrade to ICS. I too had a screen protector on so maybe it reduces the sensitivity just enough that your fingers are not registering.

Re: Samsung S2 screen unlock.

Hi Tangential

Thank you for your post and it it is great to see you here.:smileyhappy:

It may be the screen protector as mentioned and as you can see a new SIM has resolved the issue for Mozza76 so this may be the best next step.

Please back up your device and you can obtain a new SIM free of charge from your local store, alternatively you can follow the Private Message I have sent to you and either myself or one of the team will be in touch to arrange this althjough it can take a few days in total.

The next option would be for us to take a look at the device, please take the device to your local store and one of our experts will be able to take a look and advise you of your best options or alternatively we can arrange a postal repair.

Many Thanks

Re: Samsung S2 screen unlock.

There are a couple of good programmes for backing up on Google Play, Titanium Backup and My Backup Pro.

Don't rely on Kies

Once backed up type  *2767*3855# (this will wipe EVERYTHING that you have purchased or downloaded onto the phone and format the SD card) and will take your phone back to base ICS.

From here you should find that you'll need to reinstall all your apps and restore your backup.

Hopefully if there's any conflicting software on your phone it will now be removed and you should not have any more problems.

Re: Samsung S2 screen unlock.

Still doing it - the SIM seems to have resolved the issue with not taking calls, but noit this unlock issue.

I've tried without the Screen Protector, and same happens when my daughter tries it.

However, it's not a lot, and it's not a massive inconvience.

How time consuming is a reset?  Wondering whether the hassle is worth it?

Mozza76

Depends if you can live with the screen issue.

A reset is a good way to start again, but the reset wipes everything from your phone so you'll have to restore your phone from a backup and reload all your apps again.

The actual reset takes no longer than 15 minutes, restoring the phone depends on how much you want to put back on it...

Re: Samsung S2 screen unlock.

This would tend to happen to me when I had my phone charging from a wall socket. I wasn't using a branded charger, it was just a wall plug with a USB socket but the screen would become completely unresponsive. To be honest, if I ever plugged my phone into the wall it's unlikely i'd be using it til the morning. Just an idea.
