Stock Browser Problems

Is any one else having problems with the stock browser on their GSII?

Bascially, quite often I have a mobile internet signal (the 3G+ or H+ symbol is present) but I cannot access the internet and end up getting a phone message about not being able to contact the server.

However, I know I have got a signal as I can use the Twitter app to retrieve and send tweets and also download from the Android Market it just seems to be an issue with viewing websites on the broswer (it's fine on WiFi).

Would downloading another browser, say Firefox, improve the problem or is it a problem with VF's servers which for some reason doesn't affect apps?

Cheers

Re: Stock Browser Problems

Just to clarify, the message I get, which is clearly from the phone is:

"Data Connectivity Problem

The server failed to communicate. Try again later!

Re: Stock Browser Problems

Thanks for that N-DJ, I had tried that before but did try it again but with no joy.

As explained before, I obviously have a connection as any APP that needs internet connections (e.g. Twitter) work fine and I can also send MMS messages.

The problem only arises when I need to use the browser to access the internet. As I said before, it works fine on WiFi.

Incidentally, my wife got a Galaxy Ace last week (on Tesco/O2) and her mobile internet wasn''t working either last (same problem as me!). Mins is still not working at home (CO6) or work (CM1) today.

So we have two Samsung phones, both using the Android Browser, on different networks and in differnet areas both of which cannot access the mobile internet via the brower but can via an App.

Please can someone help!!!!

Re: Stock Browser Problems

This is a strange one

The two brousers to try is Opra or skyfire firefox is not that good

now if you get nothing on those two then it is a network issue

I no this might be strange to mention but it could be contenet control

we did have a user that had this way back when he looked iinto it his data was turned off all together

so a phone call to customer service and a check on you plan might help just in case

Re: Stock Browser Problems

Hi thanks again, but it's none of those.

Been to the Voda shop in town, and they cannot understand how there can be an intermittent fault with the brower that comes and goes. he checked with Kies and the software is all up to date and there is def a connection to the internet, as I knew as twitter app etc worked.

It's just the browser that isn't working.

It's so frustrating, it's a good job I have Wifi at home, I'm going to download another browser when I get home, see if that helps.

In mobile network settings go to Network Mode.

Is it set to GSM/WCDMA (Auto Mode) ?

or

Is it set to WCDMA only mode ?

It needs to be in GSM/WCDMA (Auto Mode) !

If you are using the WCDMA only mode it will show the H symbol but if you are in a 2g only area you wont get a fast enough signal for the internet to work.

By using the GSM/WCDMA mode the phone can switch between 2g and 3g.

Hope this helps?

Re: Stock Browser Problems

Thanks SD. It was on Auto mode, always has been.

Anyway, I have found a solution, when I got home the browser still did not work but I used wifi, downloaded Firefox Mobile browser and when I switched back from WiFi to mobile internet it worked perfectly.

Clearly the issue was with the stock browser, maybe caused by an update, but at least it's resolved now. Thanks for your suggestions guys.

Re: Stock Browser Problems

Yes I agree, it sounds like an App is interfering with the Stock Browser.

A Factory Reset usually sorts this kind of problem, but if you're happy using FireFox then job done!

Re: Stock Browser Problems

OK, getting annoyed now!

After using Firefox for a few days, I couldn't get to grips with it so I downloaded the Dolphin Browser, which is brilliant.

After several trrouble free days fo using it, I am now, all of a sudden, having the exact same problem with Dolphin as I had with the stock brower (see start of thread).

Is anyone aware of a particular App that causes web browsers to suddenly stop working even though there is a good. strong 3G/H+ signal?

Many thanks

Re: Stock Browser Problems

I seem to have solved the problem, thanks to heklp from Andy at the VF call centre.

He basically told me that it can't be an App as it would affect the browser on WiFi as well as on the 3G. He suggested I set up another Access Point from scratch using the info on the VF.co.uk support pages.

I did this and now it works, the only difference from the Access Point info I entered to that whch was already on the phone is that the 'Authentication' setting is now 'none' as opposed to 'PAP'.

Hopefully that has resolved the issue...... if not a factory reset is called for. Fingers crossed.

And many thanks to Andy who I spoke to for his great help!

[ Edited ]

Nice one Simon.

If it remains fixed after a couple of days, come back and mark your post with the answer as SOLVED.

That way others will be able to find the answer quickly.
